I had a personal loan from IDBI and had not defaulted for two years, the third year ( I just had six more EMIs to complete the tenure), they sent the ECS thrice in a month. Due to insufficient funds the second and the third time, I had to pay a penalty to IDBI and to HDFC where I hold my account. When called and enquired, a lady named Sangeetha (****), spoke very rudely and said that it was a policy of IDBI to send the ECS thrice if there is no fund the first time. My only question was "Why did'nt you call and let me know about it even before sending the ECS?" her response was very sarcastic and she slammed the phone on me. I tried sending e-mails, mails but there was no use. Suddenly, out of the blue, they call and say that I have defaulted and I need to pay a penalty for defaulting. A person shows up at my residence and forces me to pay the amount. They have a toll free number for customer service...I dont know where it gets routed, they dont know how to speak in English, while you are talking you realize that there is no response and you have been placed on hold and after a long pause they get back saying that I have to contact the nearest IDBI branch. I have had loans with other banks and have never been through a bad experience like I had with IDBI. I will ensure that I never have any further relationship with this bank and will also advice everybody I meet not to associate themselves with such an irresposible, inhuman, blasphemy, ********** bank.
