I’m a serving defence personnel. I was travelling from Mumbai to Chennai on 11 June 2022 in my car and while crossing the Guilalu toll plaza in the Tavarekere-Chitradurga section, I presented my service ID card. I was exempted from all other toll plazas on the way, however, on this particular plaza, the toll gate operator refused to let me go on presenting my ID card. He said I would have to pay the toll of Rs. 80. Since there were many vehicles lining up behind me and I did not want to disrupt highway traffic behind me, I paid and moved on. I also had a lot of distance to cover so could not stop there to clarify things with supervisor right then. That is the reason I’m raising the issue on this portal. It is not about Rs. 80 that I had to pay, but it is about the numerous serving defence personnel who might cross these types of toll plazas where they have to get harassed at the hands of such toll gate operators. I understand that exempted fastags are now available but personnel are still getting those fastags issued and not widely being used as of now. I myself have applied for the exempted fastag and it is still under process. But at least for the time being these toll plazas may also allow on presenting ID card. Hope my concern is appropriately dealt with. Was this information helpful? |
