Makemy trip and goibibo will by default attach an insurance policy when you buy a ticket on makemytrip website or goibibo website. I think it should not be checked by default. When customer needs to buy the travel insurance he/she should select it. Whenever i buy the ticket i have to contact makemytrip or goibibo to cancel the insurance. And it is tough to call makemytrip or goibibo because it takes long time to be on ivr and it just rings and rings and rings and if you are lucky than you might get a chance to speak to customer care to request them to cancel the insurance.
