[Resolved]  Mirraw Online Services — About vat, import duty charges paid by customer

Miraw is one of the worst online shopping that I have come across. Not at all customer centric. All became cheating money on the expense of the customer.

I am an Indian and a customer from UK and ordered products worth GBP125. When the order was received it was ok quality, but then decided to keep it and We thought that rather sending it back does not look good for the service.

Upon one month later, received a letter from a courier company (DHL) stating that i have to pay the Duty, VAT, Import charges to the UK. It was GBP17.48. I was dis-appointed with this letter and called Mirraw (customer centre is in Bermuda, spoke to about 20 mins of my time with the charges on saturday) and explained about this. They are NOT in a position to agree that these are charges from seller, but they claim as tax on the online products.

When i checked the product order sheet, the total amount was worth Rs.3172. The net profit for the seller is Rs.8203. (GBP125 = Rs.11375 with the rate of Rs91 to 1GBP). After seeing the product sheet cost and the amount being charged for the product, I have then realised that the product is NOT at all worth for the money of GBP125 been spent on. The customer support is not at all user friendly. It is located in the Bermuda region. All they say is check the website for details, but failed to tell the customer that information regarding the charges are located in a specific page etc...

All and all the Mirraw is one of the money making e-commerce websites and waste of time and money. If you are from India living elsewhere in the world, then go to India in person and buy in local shop ( using the extra charges that is paid for mirraw as your flight ticket). That would be my simple advise.

The custom charges charged to you is charged by your country and not by mirraw.com, we so not have any control over it .
We have already mention this on our website that if any customs is charged than customer has to bear that cost

Ordered 4 items in Mirraw and they are due to be delivered today.
I have took leave from work in order to receive the parcel today.

I received DHL text message saying that i have to pay £51 for the items that I bought for £153.61.

How is it fair to pay by customer when you have clearly said it is shipping free and you are able to ship worldwide.

Believing that I have ordered the goods. And now, I am being asked to pay 35% of purchase price for customs?

I think you need to sort this issue. It does not look correct for customer to pay custom charges.

I only realised now, in another section that you mentioned about VAT and custom which is not in the same section as Shipping information which is very misleading for customer who wanted to buy from you site. Either you should be mentioning this detail in the checkout area where you said free shipping (when spent more than £120) EXPLICITLY that the customer need to bear the custom charges OR DO NOT SAY THAT SHIPPING IS FREE.

It is very misleading and is a trap for customers to only realise at a later point about the custom charges.

I believe you are going to resolve this issue as soon as possible and get the parcel delivered to me.
