I am in Muscat. From Aug 2009 to December 2009 we had been trying to change my wife's address in chennai. Because she does not have enough proof to apply for passport. During that period Ration card office told that address can't be changed till Nov 2009.
After that we tried to get the passport under takkal. But application was refused.
Finally we applied on normal mode on[protected], unfortunately chennai passport office's computers not working from[protected] to[protected].
Finally we filed the application on[protected].
Last five months I am staying alone and struggling for food in muscat.

Last one week the status is showing POLICE REPORT IS CLEAR. APPLICATION IS UNDER PROCESS'. When can my wife get her passport.?

PASSPORT OFFICE — Wait too long

I have a serious complaint from my side which has not only affected me but is affecting many people all over India. I am writing from Bangalore and I think people from other cities as well will agree with me that the condition of Indian passport offices is atrocious. People say that getting a passport is a matter of luck. But is it really so? Should availing a passport be such a problem? It is said that you should keep your day free and cancel all prior appointments to just get a passport. I agree that a passport cannot be just handed over without verification for it is a legal proof of your citinzenship and identity and is no joke. Handing over a passport just like that could lead to grave consequences. But, that does not mean that people are supposed to wait and be clustered and worked up like animals in a barn! Shouldn't we improve the conditions and follow a more systematic and organised manner? When tokens are being issued for each person with the time and day details, then WHY should anyone wait slogging for 7-8 hours a day and even then it is not guaranteed that the formailities are over and the passport processing can be started and apart from that the passport processing time is synonymous with waiting for 5 months! People wait from wee hours of the morning to late hours in the evening in a room with hundreds of people each having cancelled one or the other commitments to get an INDIAN passport made and mind it Indian. This does not happen in other countries and not atleast for so long! Patients,old aged, students, workers wait for so long and some in such a dreadful conditions as they are suffering from various medical ailments and can't even sit for so long. But then what to do? No source of comfort nothing! I understand that luxuries cannot be provided and is not feasible to do so. But then atleast they can be put to ease by not taking so much time! It cannot be blamed on the Haj period that all this is happening as it happens throughout the year and definitely people don't flock for pilgrimages throughout the year. It is only during a certain period of time that people go to pay their respects to Mecca and Medina. Do not make them a reason for the inefficiency. When tokens are distributed with the time then please follow it! Allot a time slot for each person and stick to it. Though it cannot be efficiently be achieved to a degree of 100% but then atleast 75% can be achieved? People who are working day and night just to feed their families and now want a passport so that they can go abroad for job opportunities and earn more, they have to spend 8-10 hours a day and for several days just to get a passport and while doing so he is missing out on the income which he would receive till he goes abroad for other work! My mother is suffering from a serious spine problem and her spine can move down at any moment resulting in very grave consequences. But then she needs a passport. What can she do about it? She has to wait there in those uncomfortable chairs, without any support for 8 hours to get her work done. She has an appointment with the doctor but I guess she won't be able to go today looking at the conditionsof the PASSPORT OFFICE! She has to have painkillers and many of them to subside her pain that she would be suffering from now. And if it is thought that i do not know that there are provisions for the differently ablled people then I should let you know that I very well know of it as well as its conditions. I will attach a link along later to show what is being done. Then the officials go for their lunch leaving the people in despair. To add to that you are not even allowed to speak on the phone for if you do you need to get up and leave the place and by the time you come back your place is gone and you start all over again. While the people are waiting from supposedly 10 in the morning for their chance, they receive the dreaded news that "Oh! the babus or our officials are going for lunch and that will take another 1-2 hours". Is it right on the part of the government to do so? Are they taking advantage of their status and power? Oh I am sorry but that is indeed what many of our officials are famous for and please highlight "many" and not all. There are quite of them who are loyal towards their duties but they are so less in number in comparison to the many that they too have to take the title of LAZY on their heads. As a citizen I am complaining, not because I am prejudiced against the Indian government but because I want to make a difference in the country and bring out its cons to improve on it. I am not a pessimist and very well know that our motherland India has innumerable pros as well but those can't be used as a curtain to hide its cons. There are various issues to be addressed and this is one of them.

This has become a serious problem now after I visited 12 times in past 9 months to the same old passport office in Chennai. I applied for renewal with all necessary documents on 30/12/2008 and every time its delayed. After several visits to Passport office and Police Stations the Police verification is done on 10th of July and as of today on 16th Sept, its nothing happened, the website is not updated and I didn't get my passport. The APO commited that there is nothign pending and I should get it in a week for last three weeks. Its ridiculas.

passport office, chennai — non transparent way of working

Every day, throughout the day hundreds of people personally visit passport office for getting their work done. The least the office can do is to put up proper friendly sign boards to guide them as also operate a full time help desk.

There are no sign boards worth the name, the reception works only for two hours in the morning ( I fail to understnd the logic of this)

Due to this lack of information, people are forced fto approach touts operating around the building for information and to get their work done. I am not sure if there is a collusion with these touts to withhold information to the public.
To make matters worse, these touts are not allowed to help the public in peace. Constant raids to harass them( only temp action taken) make them keep raising their prices to the public, puttiong them in more difficulty.

I suggest that either the passport office becomes public friendly or allow only touts to operate the office with impunity so that at least we will get good service. Like they have outsourced issue of PP to TCS, they can also outsource public relations to another firm. They can perform only as monitoring authority for a job which they have proved incapable of handling by themselves

Passport Office, Chennai — Non receipt of Passport

Dear Sir,

I have submitted my application for the issue of fresh Passport on 29/6/2009 under Normal category. Till date (20/11/09) i have not received passport. I have sent three mails to grievance mail id but no response from the officers. If officers do not respond then mail id will not serve any purpose. I have also checked passport office website and it shows "Your police report is clear. Application is under process". I do not know how long they will process the application.

I have also went in person and submitted the letter to the person responsible and the officer told me that i will receive within a fortnight. So far more than 30 days passed. I have not received passport till now.

Passport officers: Please note people are put to untold suffering due to non issuance of passport despite having their file clear. This type of situation should change.

I completely agree with you. I am also in the same situation. It is more than 8 months since I applied for my passport. Even though the police report is clear, passport is not yet issued. So far I have made personal visit for more than 7 times and all the time they say that my passport will be issued by next week. Later I learnt from some indirect contact, that they had misplaced my passport application and are searching for it. I am wondering how it is possible for misplacing such confidential file? I will say the chennai passport office is the worst office among the other government offices like taluk office and RTO office. I don't know why they are delaying in issuing passport for genuine cases while on the other side the ministry of external affairs responsible for passport office is allowing foreign terroists to attack our nation. I am really feeling very shame to live in such politically destroyed nation.

Sub: Delay in Passport Provisioning

I have applied for a passport in Collector Office, Salem on 3rd July 2006. The application number for my passport is z402447/06. The procedures for the verification and allotment of passport have been completed. But, the whole process has not been completed within six months from the date of application. As a result, the validity for the Demand Draft has been void. Therefore, I had to re-apply the passport again. When I enquired about this in Salem on 18th July 2007, I have been informed that all the procedures had been completed in Salem. They are unable to provide any further information and asked us to check with PRO (Public Relations Officer), Chennai.

When I went to Chennai to check for this on 18th November 2008, I have been asked to provide a written letter requesting for re-verification process. I have provided the same. No one had come to my premises for verification. As a result, there is still no progress in provisioning the passport. I have even complained about this through an e-mail ([protected]@tn.nic.in). I have not received any reply for that complaint. Please let me know what the current status of my passport application is and when the passport will be delivered.

If you are unable to process this passport application, please cancel it, so that I can at least apply for a new passport again. It has been more than 900 days since I applied this passport. As an Indian citizen, I think I don’t have to wait for this long to get a passport from Indian government.

In the year 2008 all issues has been cleared, and then i visited chennai passport office to apply newly thta time they advised me just fill Personal particulars form(PP) and attach court order document in that so that we will send Re-police verification then you will get your passport like that, everything i filled and submitted in december 2008 and i was waiting for police verification till may 2009 it has not come

Again i visited chennai passport office in june 2009 and verified my passport they told me that whatever the document and PP form is not their with them so once again you fill PP form now we will send like that they told me new PP form and all documents i submitted on june 2009 this time it came for police verification to local station K.V.Kuppam, and it got cleared and i was waiting for my passport then also i didn't got my passport so i went chennai passport office in september 2009 they told me still police verification not reached to them like that so again i went to vellore SP to verify my police verification status my file is still lying in SP office after that in september 12th from vellore SP office that verification copy also they sent to chennai passport office

I waited upto december after that i sent my father to chennai passport office to verify they told me to come, so in 3rd january 2010 myself went to chennai passport office i met deputy passport officer and i explained all my issues he also told to clear my files so again they told me to come on 7th jan 2010 again i went that day also i met deputy passport officer and i told that now in my side nothing is left pending all the things are over what was the reason why still i didn't got my passport like that, for this every time i need to travel from bangalore to chennai like that i requested for that he told me that tomorrow we will despatch your passport within three days you will be getting your passport like that he told me still i didn't got my passport several mails i sent their is no response what i need to do further in order to get my passport please tell me

Sub: Delay in Passport Provisioning

I have applied for a passport in Collector Office, Salem on 3rd July 2006. The application number for my passport is z402447/06. The procedures for the verification and allotment of passport have been completed. But, the whole process has not been completed within six months from the date of application. As a result, the validity for the Demand Draft has been void. Therefore, I had to re-apply the passport again. When I enquired about this in Salem on 18th July 2007, I have been informed that all the procedures had been completed in Salem. They are unable to provide any further information and asked us to check with PRO (Public Relations Officer), Chennai.

When I went to Chennai to check for this on 18th November 2008, I have been asked to provide a written letter requesting for re-verification process. I have provided the same. No one had come to my premises for verification. As a result, there is still no progress in provisioning the passport. I have even complained about this through an e-mail ([protected]@tn.nic.in). I have not received any reply for that complaint. Please let me know what the current status of my passport application is and when the passport will be delivered.

If you are unable to process this passport application, please cancel it, so that I can at least apply for a new passport again. It has been more than 900 days since I applied this passport. As an Indian citizen, I think I don’t have to wait for this long to get a passport from Indian government.

Passport Office Chennai — non receipt after more than 2 months of applying

Non receipt of passport even after more than 2 months of applying with complete docs. No phone number in chennai office is being picked up..

your case is far more better. It is more than 8 months over since I applied for my passport. I didn't received my passport till today. I am not able to get the actual status also. So far I have made personal visit for more than 7 times and all the time they say that my passport will be issued by next week. Later I learnt from some indirect contact, that they had misplaced my passport application and are searching for it. I am wondering how it is possible for misplacing such confidential file? I will say the chennai passport office is the worst office among the other government offices like taluk office and RTO office. I don't know why they are delaying in issuing passport for genuine cases while on the other side the ministry of external affairs responsible for passport office is allowing foreign terroists to attack our nation. I am really feeling very shame to live in such politically destroyed nation.

Applied passport to my mother 5 months ago and police enquire was over. I live in USA and trying to contact Chennai passport office and Sumathi the regional pasport officer is not responding. Please find about the status of the file number Z157208 submitted in vellore district passport office and when my mother will get her passport.

I applied for the passport by online through a neighbour in the last week of february 2009, and i didn't get the file number till date (8.4.2009). Can you please tell me the reason for it, and tell me how long it will take to get the file number and how long it will take to get the passport. Is there any possibility for me to get the passport soon.

The same thing for me also. I applied my passport by April 2008, now it June 2009, still my passport did not arrived. After verifying the status, again i gave my personal particulars & police verification also completed. Even then, the status remains same and still did not received any communication. I too have sent mail to greivance cell, but no action.

This passport officiers are working for the public and when you go there they treat like we are their slaves and even the security not talking pleasantly, some how everyday they handling 1000s of people let them have more counters to serve us better. why the passport officer not understanding this and this is the simple desicion also he cannot take?

No the things should go like this.whenever the child is given birth.That time itself apply for the passport.whenever the child is completing secondary school update that message in passport.so that it will be ready within HSC completion.Then update HSC completion.that will be updated nearly to graduation.Then update graduation or engineering.Finally you will get the passport after retirement.For pension verification

Sub: Addressing Grievances for obtaining Passport

I wish to state that, I was working with National Dairy Development Board, which comes under Ministry of Agriculture Government of India, from 25.07.1979 to 14.10.2006 and I had a put 27 years of service in NDDB and finally opted for voluntary retirement in the year of 2006. Since then I am presently staying at Chennai doing Electrical Consultancy works on small time basis and presently staying in a rented house. However my Ration Card & Voter ID address proof is at my native place i.e. birth place at kongupatti village, Salem district.

Recently, I have been engaged as Electrical Consultant by HSCC Delhi for the job of 150 Bedded hospitals at Dicloya Srilanka. The project is being executed through ministry of external affairs, Government of India.

Since I am being the electrical consultant I will have to visit the project site immediately since the project is nearing completion for inspection. Hence I badly need of passport.

Therefore, I had approached Chennai passport office, and they have clearly stated that I am not eligible to apply for passport since I don’t have two proof of address at Chennai. And they have informed me verbally that I should apply for my passport at Coimbatore Passport Seva Kendra with two proof of valid address of my Ration Card and Voter ID.

Accordingly, I had applied for passport at Coimbatore Passport Seva Kendra in the month of March 2013 and mentioning my permanent residence address as well as my present address in the application. Finally I got an appointment order from Coimbatore Passport Seva Kendra to appear for verification on 25.04.2013. Which I had appeared with all my originals.

During verification and interview, the Coimbatore Passport Seva Kendra officials out rightly have informed me that my passport cannot be processed at Coimbatore office since I am working at Chennai that too after collecting the fees of Rs.1500, although I clearly stated in my original application about my present address.

However I have pleaded with superior officer of Coimbatore Passport Seva Kendra officials that since I am not eligible to apply to Chennai passport office. Hence i had applied in Coimbatore Passport Seva Kendra. Even then he had turned down my request and put the application on HOLD and stating that I should apply for passport at Chennai office with my copy of Chennai rental agreement along with copy of copy of bank passbook. Initially when I checked up with Chennai passport office they have clearly told that copy of Chennai rental agreement cannot be treated as proof of address.

May I therefore kindly request you to personally intervene the above case and let me know by return mail the line of action, I am suppose to take since my presence at srilanka project site is immediately required.

Once again I request you to please treat my afore mentioned grievances on top priority. And my file no is CB[protected].

Totally agree. THE WORST SERVICE that no where in the world /no government organisation in the world will behave as these INDIAN government services do. They are still like animals.
Only if this happens to PM & President, they will come to klnow and action on it. unless otherwise there is NO chance that these guys will change towards customers (indian Citizen) who have given them the work and hence bread for their entire family.

I had applied pass port one year before in chennai. before i have received my passport, i transferred to bangalore. in the mean time pass port came to my chennai address & return. as per the instruction of pass port authority i have given my bangalore address proof. they told they will send my pass port to bangalore pass port office & from there i have to collect. it is almost one year has complied. but still they have not transfer to bangalore pass port office.

From experience I confirm that the passport officials are the worst in the world and go into action only when a cricketer or politician or underworld criminal is to be issued a passport. I have seen that Bangladeshis and Sudanese etc get passports very easily

The inefficiency is mind boggling and people are packed and treated as
cattle: uniformly from guards to "officers". It is clear that there are strong undercurrents of corruption. My "Tatkal" Passport came with wrong name and
to correct their mistake it has taken them 3 weeks after I returned it to them,
and they said that it will come in "two days". I have filed a Right to Information
application. I recommend that all those who are facing problems with such agencies file a RTI. It costs only Rs. 10 and they are obliged to provide you an
answer within 30 days, by law. If we flood them with this they may get the message.

I Strongly agree with you. My issue is also same kind. I went to RPO Hyd (My native place) to apply my passport, before that i enquired whether i can apply since i am currently staying in Chennai sine 8months. In RPO HYD sr.citizen who helped me in filling form said, legally you should not apply in RPO HYD. He suggested me to apply in RPO-Chennai. I did same in the month os Jan'08. After a month time POlice verification has done in current location, but till date in HYD-police verification is pending. I tried to know the status from RPO chennai, they said file sent to HYD-RPO (One day wasted). I went HYD-RPO on 27th April'08, they said we didnt recieve any application from CHennai-RPO. Again i went to chennai-RPO and tried to find out with APO. He conveyed same thing that file sent to HYD-Commissioner office. ...It is going on like my email...still lots there to share about my struggles but i lost patients in roaming around passport offices and even in writing emails/complaints... no use...

While applying through post office I submitted standard affidavit in annexure "I" This comprehensively covers tha applicants name, name of father mother address date of bithe address and stay at the given address.This is notarised by notary public and as such legal form. But the staff at Post office refused to accept this document. It is quiet strange that they insist on pass book copy for 12 months when the prescribed form is only copy of the first page of bank pass book.Interpretation of rules are left to the whims and fancies of the staff handling the counters. Unless a revolution takes place nothing will change

It has been two months completed, after the police verification but still I didn't get my passport. I called to the given landline numbers 28203591, 28203593, 28203594 & 28218844 and no one pickup the call. My friend has applied one month before me and he got his passport. I applied for re-issuance of passport on 28.08.2008 at kota post office but till date I have not received the passport back. Along with my application, my brother also applied for the same and he has received the passport on 02.12.2008 but I have not received till date. I am a NRI and trying to obtain a passport for my mother a Senior Citizen, who is at her 80's on a priority basis. For Tatkal scheme as per them it will take only 3 days. But it is all Bogus because with out bribing nothing works out in RPO. The staffs are found so conceited and they work as if they are doing free service to Indian citizens.

As per the RPO website they need TWo photo proof to issue PP on TATKAL but they still avoid by giving some invalid reasons to make people to struggle.

The worst part of it is making elderly people to wait in queue for hours to gether.

I agree. I am facing the same problem. I am currently in chennai and my local police report is clear, but my police report in Pune has not been cleared yet. I went to the passport office and told me to contact Pune commissioner's office. I dont understand how in the world will i contact them when i have moved out of Pune.

one more comment on the passport issue i would like to add is...never apply for a passport through agents in chennai. If you submit the application through them, your file number would be allocated only after 30-40 days. this fact will not be intimated by the agents when you approach them. My wife and son have applied for passport through an agent. Agent said the application has been submitted in the month of February and when we got the reciept (after so many follow up with him) after several weeks it was showing a date of April. We did not recieve the passport so far. Chennai RPO is the worst Rpo in the entire India. By any chance, dont go to RPO chennai or even if you go dont go through an Agent. You may find lots of add in the web saying that they are authorised travel agents but are good for nothing fellows... once they get their fee they will scoot off. If you apply for a passport in Kochi / Bangalore / Hyderabad you will get it in within 30-35 days but here it takes more than 60 days... Who will change it...Very pathetic government officials...

Yes i agree with that.In chennai passport office is very very worst condition and worst lazzy people wotrking.they are not working properly.They are just coming and getting and going home.Then they with their family.Government has to provide new roles for them.They recruit new young and energitic persons not lazzy persons like they are.Most people falt in a problem with that chennai passport office.That is worst.If govenment will take severe axction against them.Then only they work fastly and rectify the passport delay and other process also.

What a shame... Where is the government... Why MEA is not doing anything...its a shame...for the entire nation...So by Rs. 13000 any terrorist can take a passport... The officers involved should be charged against conspiracy against nation and to be treated like betrayers..

Yes i too have the same problem of PRO its really very shame on chennai passport office there must be some legal action taken towards chennaipassport office even they are not able to atten the call for the past one month and iam waiting for my brothers passport for the past 1 year

I have applied passport for re-issue through agent in chennai during apr 2009 but till now i didn't receive file no nor receipt. This is really disgusting. Many times i called up or visited in person to get the status but negative answer, they say still my receipt is not yot generated. how can i resolve this. Please suggest me what action can be taken.

I have applied for passport on (25/062008) file no (z357527). Still have not got my passport.I have send a letter to passport office on (12/03/09) .They have asked me to send a new demand draft on (30/03/2009)since the validity of demand draft has expired. I have furnished it on (08/04/2009).I have got a report status form speed post that they have delivered on (13/04/2009)speed post number(ET[protected]IN) still I have have not got any response form the passport office.

imissed my passport in chennai on the way to thambaram from velachery. thief stole my bag..i dnt remember my passport nimber and xerox copy of passport also in the same bag, , , please help wat shall i do how to get my passport details???

The services in passport office are the worst. I had to stand in queue to pay for the demand draft after verification of my application for about 2 hours. The system hanged so that, they could not process any payments. Also, there was power failure and there was no backup power. There was no proper information on what is going on. There was no one to guide the people including aged people. This should change

I suggest you to write email and fax to the following person, resend eamil every day until, if you are lucky you will get reply. Money is ruling in Indian government, only GOD can save India.

I applied my pass port on month of may 2009.The police verification has also finished on the month of july 2009. After that there is no response from the RPO. I am continuing making a call everyday but the phone is busy or just ringing.I had made a call more then 100 times But no one is picking the phone.No one is giving the proper response.I don't know whether they are really busy or simply keeping the phone out of range .I don't know what i want to do.But our indian government services is very worst.My file number is A020859.When i am checking status at the website simply it showing "Your police verification has been finished and pass port is under process".I Didn't know that i will get my passport or not.Kindly do your best.Becoz most of the indian peoples are having these king of problems. When we get the solution of these types of problems.

I totally agree with Rajkumar, the same thing happend for me also. I applied for the PP Renewal before 8 months, even police enquires was done 3 months before. Whenever i approach the PP office, the answer from the officer is in another 10 days you will recieve the passport. Now almost 2 months has passed but still i didn't recd the PP.
