Paying Guest — Not returning the advance amount

I have joined pg in 14th October and i paid 2900 as a rent for 16 days ( that is from 14th October to 31 October) and 3000 as a advance, in which owner said 2000 will be returned while vecating pg. For some reason I have decided to vecate pg on 31 October and i have informed the same to pg owner 10 days earlier itself. But while vecating the pg, owner refused to return my advance of 2000.
