Reserve Bank Of India [RBI] — Old rs. 500 and rs 1, 000.00 notes
I came back to India after 2 years. I am am OCI card holder. I was told to declare the old currency when I arrive in India and go through the red line. I arrived in India on the night of May 28, 2917 approximately at 9:30 PM. I stood in the customs red line. When I turn came I was approached by an plain clothes officer Singh in plain clothes. I told him I wanted to declare Rs 25, 000. He asked me if I held a Indian Passport. I told him no. He said when I get out of the terminal to throw away Rs. 15, 000.00 in the trash can as it is illegal to carry more than Rs. 10, 000.00. I was told that I could declare the old note and exchange them for the new one. So, what do I do with the Rs. 15, 000.00? I would like my old currency to be replace by new notes. It is my hard earned moeny. Was this information helpful?
