Uber India — Excessive Payment for a Trip and Uncooperative Customer Care Support

I took a trip from University of Hyderabad to Secunderabad Junction on August 9 in the morning. I used an Uber auto booked through the Uber app for the trip.

I was asked to pay ₹325.92 for the trip for which I chose the online payment through my Paytm wallet. I had paid the amount as the trip started.

But, after the driver dropped me at the destination, he was hellbent on taking the amount in cash. Even though I told him and showed him that I have paid through online mode, he wasn't letting me go. He said that all I would have to do is to raise this issue in the app. They can confirm it with him by calling him and that he'd inform them that the payment has been made in cash. And then the online payment would be refunded within 10-15 minutes.

I had to catch my train so I had to pay him the same amount in cash, which included ₹326 for the trip and ₹24 extra as a tip which he wanted because of the luggage (it should be noted, I had a duffle bag, a trolley, and a laptop backpack).

When I tried to reach the Uber custom care service, I wasn't offered the service on call. Instead, an automated chat assistance was offered which did not address my complaint properly. And they are saying the cannot refund my amount. They did not even try to contact the driver, confirm the cash payment, and refund me the amount from the online payment.

For a trip of, ₹325.92, I had to pay ₹675.92. This amount may seem little but that was more than half the cash I had kept with me for my train journey. I am attaching the receipt of the online payment I had made in the beginning of the trip.
