[Resolved]  Airtel — Over Billing

This is regarding my husband’s Airtel Connection[protected] based out of Mumbai. I have been writing to Bharti Airtel since Nov. 2008 on the issue of faulty / over-billing but till date have received no satisfactory response from them. Instead the cell phone services have been suspended twice with no prior intimation and the matter is still under dispute. Here is a history of the events that prompted us to write in to the Consumer Complaints Forum.

My husband traveled to Dubai & Sharjah end of Oct.2008 on a 5-day trip. On his return, he realized that his outgoing calls and messaging had been barred. Thereafter, he received a SMS from Airtel stating that he had an outstanding of Rs.18, 000 on his connection, which had to be settled immediately, else they would not restore his connection. We spoke to their customer care executives but received very little assistance. The services to our line remained suspended for almost 2 weeks.

We then wrote to Airtel on Nov.12th saying that we needed a detailed itemized bill before paying the dues since it was not a small amount by any stretch of imagination. On Nov.17th w spoke to Ms.Abhilasha Hans, Head – Customer Services stationed at their Corporate Office in Gurgaon. We receive a statement only on Nov.30th indicating the dues, but no details of the phone numbers called and received and the usage time were disclosed. Their excuse was that the Billing System did not permit a detailed invoice before the due date of our billing cycle.

On reviewing this statement we discovered some discrepancies and were not clear about some of the charges levied on to us. The International roaming charges that they had billed us viz a viz what was mentioned on their internet site were different. They were over-charging us by a substantial amount. We then wrote back to Airtel on Dec.8th for clarification on the same. We asked them for documentary proof from Iteselat (their co-service provider in the UAE) to substantiate their claim. Since we did not hear from them we sent a reminder on Dec.14th along with a protest payment of Rs.8, 000. We received a reply on Dec.15th but it did not address all our queries and provide us with necessary clarification on critical issues.

The next bill was received shortly which included dues from the earlier bill. Here again we discovered some mistakes amounting to over-billing which we conveyed over email to Airtel on Jan.1st 2009 along with a reminder to revert on the earlier bill issue. They acknowledged the ‘wrong’ charges made by them, over phone. Subsequently, we made our payment towards this bill after making adjustments for the faulty charges levied.

On Jan. 4th, we sent a detailed email to Ms.Abhilasha Hans voicing our disappointment in Airtel’s response to our grievance. We insisted that they send us the proof we had requested if the dues need to be settled. Ever since, there has been exchange of emails and phone calls between the Nodal Office and us, but nothing concrete has come of it and we still have not sought the desired clarification on this matter from Airtel. We have not heard from any senior Airtel official despite addressing and marking a copy of each mail to Ms.Hans. And as of Jan.27th they have barred all the outgoing services to our number, which compelled us to seek the services of another service-provider.

When I browse through this on-line forum, I realize that there are a lot of aggrieved Airtel customers like us, seeking justice on various service-related matters. This can further be affirmed by an article that appeared in Hindustan Times dated Jan.30th 2009 wherein Airtel has been voted as the ‘Worst Service Provider’ in the telecom sector by the Consumer Guidance Society of India based on complaints filed by consumers in the areas of over-billing, cross-connections, unreachable helplines and network problems.

AirTel — Overbilling after Complaints

I have corporate connections for [protected] in the name of Rave Services. I have a bad network experience in sector 17 of chandigarh. I want all connections to be deactivated.

AirTel — over billed

My mobile no is --- [protected]. It was used in UAE for 10 days only and roaming chages are 14449.49 which is very high.

Befor leaving India I had cross checked with airtell customer care for international roaming chages and I was told it is very less comapring to abovesaid chages e.g. 14449.49.

So, please advice why it is so high for so short span of time.

Airtel — overcharging for change of hello tune

using the latest service of a *121# i changed my hellotune on my mobile but was charged 8 times the amount and got the same message from airtel again and again which are saved in my mobile.
i complained to airtel customer care and the promised to solve it in 5 days but after 20 days passed they didnt contact me for the complaint so again i contacted them. this time they assured me that my balance will be restored to the tune of amount deducted but now around 20 days have passed and they have failed to do so.
even if i call them at customer care they don't give any definitive answer.

airtel mobile office internet connection — deactivation without prior notice

my airtel mobile office internet connection has been deactivated on 15th october without any prior notice.
and inspite of launching so many complaints no action has been taken.
its a pre paid connection and I had already paid for this service..
no feedback has been yet received from the airtel.
kindly look into the matter for providing instant relief.

Airtel — Mobile office Not connected after repetitive reminders

Myself, Paramjeet dahiya, using [protected] number of Airtel exclusively for internet connection to access the websites for my thesis and research work. we availed this service on 1st week of October. On 30th of October we recharged our phone again to continue with same Mobile office service. On 3rd of Nov... this MO services has been deactivated by Airtel without any prior intimation or information. After that we have tried customer care several times to get the services activated, but did not receive any satisfactory reply. I did not know what to do and to whom I have to make my complaint. may I have an assurance to seek some help from your side regarding this matter.

Airtel GPRS — CHARGING FOR WHAT WE NEVER SUBSCRIBE

Below is the mail i sent to the airtel officer. I requested them amny times on 121 customer service to adjust the amount rs.1460, which was overcharged, that that i can make the rest of the payment t airtel. But Airtel has stopped my incoming and outgoing & mobile shows the Invalid Sim. The no.[protected] Belongs to me, which i use for perosnal and business use.

Subject: ILLEGAL ACTIVATION/ CHARGES without subscriber's interest.

Respected Sir, Madam.

My name is Satwinder Singh Aujla subscriber of [protected] and a busy business man.
I have the facility of rs 299GPRS, pacakage for unlimited access for internet activated to use it on my desktop. At the time of subscription also rs. 49 package was given for use net on phone.

In the month of december i was overcharged for the SMS OTHERS Rs. 1460. which was also notified to 121 customer service. Also many weeks i was illagally charged for Yahoo subscription rs 10/week.


AFTER MANY COMPLAINTS TO AIRTEL CUSTOMER SERVICE THE PROPBLEM IS NOT RECTIFIED & OUTGOING FACILITY WAS STOPPED FROM FEW DAYS, ADN NOW INCOMING CALLS HAS BEEN STOPPED AS WELL.

Mr. Pankaj [protected] from mohali office and airtel phagwara office callled me few times, with hs partial knowledge and guided me to pay the bill, i was threatened to stop my incoming calls.

The december month-bill was paid and later customer service was notified for the rectification.
So please rectify this issue in 5 working days. Unless my loss of business will be unbearable for me, because of comunication gap.

Bharti Airtel — Financial

I have not made any ISD Call but company is saying that you have made a ISD Call and charges deducted by the company against making a ISD Call. I have record of all the incoming and outgoing calls.So Kindly do the needful in this regard.

Airtel — Bill not yet received since Jan 09

I have been requesting for my post paid bill since Jan 09. I have already spoken / requested to many executives and customer relation managers for morethan 2 months for my Jan 26 to Feb 05 and Feb 26 to Mar 25 bill. I have called them morethan 100 times.

Please do the needfull to getting my softcopy airtel mob bill immediately.

AirTel — over billling

I have been sent a bill for Rs 23,000 while my normal avarage billing is Rs 1,300/- pm. This, as per airtel, is due for my usage of GPRS. I have not down-loaded/ used the service to this extent.

I am getting Notice by Advocate sent on behalf of Bharti Airtel.
I talked to 121 and also send email to of my complete summary o[censored]sage, They still did not stop calling on my land line and sending me notice.

Before traveling to Singapore I checked charges (the website of Airtel shows Singtel service chart of Rs. 78.83/- as outgoing and Rs. 44.13/- as incoming, GPRS of 10S$ for 1 MB)
Summary
This refers to my Bill dated 21st August 2009
The total outgoing calls made were for 17 minutes all together, 17 x 78.83 = 1340.11/-. ( charged as Rs. 1569.72/- @ Rs. 92.13/-)
The total incoming calls where received 24 minutes all together, 24 x 44.13 = 1059.12/-.( charged as Rs. 1256.93/- @ Rs. 52.42/-)
There was no sms where made which is priced as 72.42/- the number listed is not valid number,

GPRS which is priced as 4782.80/-. which is not been used, If at all its been used then (I asked for clarification for it that what is the rate charged per minute cause it comes to Rs. 880.88/- per min or Rs.4.75/- per Kb. and bill shows in just 5 minutes there was millions and millions of bytes used) which is impossible.

With concern to call made by me on 121, on 30th August 2009, AirTel Executive told me to make payment immediate which was appropriate.

My current Bill Amounting Rs. 966.07/- is actual Rs. 675.15/- ( payment made Cheque No. 097319 Dt. 27/9/09 Rs. 675.15/- )

After making intimation for the above mentioned problem to be solved sill Late payment is been charged to me Rs. 290.92/-

Ther was no call from Airtel department to resolve my problem and make the correct adjustment. But there are unlimited unwanted calls from AirTel.

Airtel Mobile Service — survice suspended due to mistake committed by them

Dear Sir,

This is to inform you that I am the User of this no .[protected] for the last three years or so. I have been paying my bills always before due date which you can verify from the record.

In the month of October I had given request for activation of GPRS on my number which was activated on 20, October 2009 and later on I was told after my no of calls to Call center no 121 that by mistake it was activated in a wrong plan. I am using services under RCUG plan in which GPRS is Rs.99/-Unlimited.

Due to this error a wrong bill was generated and after number of e mails and calls I was told that waiver was passed and in my December bill it will be corrected which was not the case when I received the bill I came to know. Once again I contacted the call center and written mails but every time assurance were given to me but of no use.

Due to mistake committed by someone in Airtel I have been going through this mental harassment as well as embarrassment and beside this my Outgoing services were barred thrice.

Once again I spoke to number of officials and assurance was given to me that service on my number will not be suspended. In the last week a man from recovery agent came to my house. I received system generated calls and I had to explain the whole issue that to not once I think I can not count.

When I spoke to Ms. Varsha (Mumbai provisioning Dept.) she assured me that service will not be affected and I should ignore all the calls.

I can produce all the correspondence which I had with different Officials in the past if required.


Now I want you to look into the matter. All the officials I feel do not deserve their Salaries if they can not resolve matter in three months time. If you will also not do the needful then I will left with no option and I will be compelled to approach some consumer forum and then to TRAI. Tribunal.

Kindly start my number as soon as possible and issue the correct bill. I have in fact paid more then my dues to date.

Hi, I previously used to work in Airtel as nodal officer.I can confirm that more than 10 percent of airtel's revenue comes from such fraud by company.I daily received 400 calls from dis satisfied customers when I used to work at Airtel. Most of illiterate people living in villages are not even aware that their money is being deducted without any reason.

this is to bring into ur notice tht i have been observing my airtle mobile bill n0 [protected] since last 4 months is too over priced.......recently i went out of india and hardly made calls and my bill came of 15788 which is horrible cant be possible please help....

Airtel — promising a 100 rs. waiver and the declining now when the bill came

unnecessary packages were being added to my bill plan without my notification , this happened repeatedly more than 3 times even when i deactivated the service.I contacted the cust. care numerous times wasted my whole time gettin a waiver but they never waived off a single paisa from my bill....... n now when i hv stopped using that Sim they r bugging me off , sending me bills with a late fee... what to do ? if i stop that sim will i get the security refund ?

Airtel Cellular Service Provider — FAULTY BILL AMOUNT

I HAVE BEEN USING AN AIRTEL No. SINCE PAST 2.5YRS NOW. MY PAYMENT RECORDS WITH THE Co. ARE VERY CLEAR AND UPTO THE MARK. THIS WAS JUS A MONTH ABCK WHEN I WANTED TO ACTIVATE MY GPRS SERVICE ON THE PHONE THAT I WAS TAKEN FOR A RIDE BY THE CUSTOMER CARE DEPARTMENT AND I REALISED THAT "AIRTEL" IS NOT THE RIGHT Co. TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH . IT TOOK ME ABOUT 4 DAYS TO ACTIVATE MY GPRS.
THE AMOUNT OF PHONE CALLS TO THE CUSTOMER HELPLINE SHOT MY BILLS UP WITH Rs.350.00 I WAS MADE TO HOLD LINE FOR 10 TO 15 MINS AFTER THE TELE CALLERS WERE ON LIVE CONVESATION.

I WOULD LIKE TO GET A CREDIT FOR MY AMT WHICH I WAS CHARGED BY TEHM FOR THEIR MISTAKES AND MIS-MANAGEMENT AND MIS- COMMUNICATION.

Airtel — Deactivation of services without prior notice

My 5 year old pre paid connection was suddenly deactivated without any prior communication or notice. The reason, which I later came to know, was that I needed to verify my identity & submit necessary supporting documents. My mobile services were stopped till I submitted the necessary documents.

I believe that disconnecting services without intimating the user is extremely inconvenient & not an acceptable practice.

Kindly look into the matter.
