Another Scam in India with Bharti Airtel.

I have purchased postpaid connection from Airtel Bharti GSM phone company in India.
The service was so quick in terms of activation and selling- by Airtel. I got my number and SIM right at my door step and was happy on first day of its usage. For getting connection I provided all the documents ( indian resident proof) to the satisfaction of the Airtel Agent who came to our door for selling. Which was also confirmed okay by Mr. Sudhir Manager of verification, as he stated.

On third of fourth day I got the message that my phone will be deactivated in case I do not provide all documents. So I spoke to one Mr. Divaker the Airtel Agent who sold me SIM card, he said nothing to worry as documents have not reached and your phone will work fine if you just let them know that documents are on its way.

He assured that nothing will go wrong. Later next day phone was deactivated for which I got SMS intimation. I again spoke to Divaker and Mr. Sudhir of Airtel Verification ( [protected]) and immediately problem was corrected and connection became active in 15 minutes as promised.


On same day evening I got request from some agent that he wants to visit my house for address verification, I provided time between 10 to 10.30 A.M. next day, for which the verification guy came at around 2 pm. ( his number[protected]. This guy knew no National language of India or proper English. Finally through the help of Divaker ( over phone)
I explained him and signed the document as proof of verification. however he provided no copy. This guy who visited understood that we are not resident of India and he expected some dollars to expedite our work ( spoke in broken English, rather he uttered dollar words). I presume this guy was looking for some money as per his words and body language. But we refused to pay him and said no dollars.. He just kept on using word, dollars, dollars , work fast, if no, wait. long.. ( in broken English). So in this situation we managed to take his picture, which I am attaching with my complaint.

After he left,
I thought by now everything should have been fine.
So I was relaxing after so much of trouble and formalities of Indian hospitality. But unfortunately again on next day on 15th Dec 2010 phone was deactivated by Noon time without any intimation or information by Airtel, neither by phone nor by sms.

I called Divaker and explained, he said he will fix up. He called back and after detailed discussion he informed me that the report is not complete so I will have to wait. This is outcome of probably because I did not make the verification guy happy with dollars, who looked very greedy , or uneducated person.

NEXT.

So I called 121 customer service and the guy on phone said I will have to wait for next 24 hours for any update.( ref:[protected] Vinay G.S.) , An hour later I got a call from[protected] , who said my verification is not complete, so he would be sending another person to get complete report and verification. He did not recognize that verification was already done yesterday which was duly signed in his records.
The guy on phone from[protected] continued to rant ( do not remember his name) and rave that another verification is required because Indian government require detailed report.

However I did not give him another opportunity or permission to come and harass us once again. and till now the phone is deactivated despite paying all the deposit and one month bill in advance.

Airtel is such a shame and behaving like corrupt govt offices.

So I need help from someone who can assist me recover my deposit or fix up the phone.
It seems India is full of scams when ministers , babus are mostly involved in various scandals like 2G scam, food scam, fodder scam, coffin scam,hawala scam, bofors scam etc.

Now among such scams why do we expect one corporate Indian company to be honest, specially when they expect money for verification and expediting the connection. After all these companies too have to share their money with corrupt administration.

In first place why did AIRTEL sold me connection, if they have so much of issues.
So the fact is they want to sell and then harass customer for extra money...


It seems AIRTEL is scam ridden company which is managed by Bharti Mittal. Wonder how is managing such company.

Let us see how these guys are reacting after reading this report on this forum.

Avoid Airtel and have peace of mind, Their network is pathetic too, poor customer service and staff extorting money.

Bharti — EXTORTING money from customers

Without using SMS services every month Rs. 35 is charged by airtel

I had recieved so many calls & so many feedback calls from airtel & in every call airtel agreed to deduct but still nothing has been done.

Secondly I am getting charged for CUG numbers that should be free of cost & I am getting charged from last three months. Incidentally I had seen one number & searched for that.

I can't verify each & every call from thousand of calls.

I dont know how much blunder will be done by airtel in bills.

Bharti have made it another way of earning money from customers.

Guys please verify bill before paying, I know each & every call cant be traced but at least have a look on bill once before paying & please regularly check outstanding amount as well.

I have just sent you an email with phone number along with nodal officer, appellate and 121, , Let us see how eager you are to resolve this, We even called Nodal officer, who never wanted to come on phone and other staff in nodal office were ranting same thing as explained above for another verification, which we will not allow.

We are going to file a police/legal case against your verification staff who just come at the time when no males are at home . Besides such criminal staff expect money and harass our family.( expeting dollars to process the completion of report)

Why would they not come at 10 to 10.30 a.m at the time which was also confirmed to Sudhir and the other staff. Why these criminal looking guys come only at 2. p.m.? What is their intention apart from demanding money? Do they normally go to someone's house at 2 p.m. when most male members are away for work?

Now why you want to make second verification by sending same staff, when we already signed two documents and his log book for address verification as seen in the picture proof. ( however we refused to pay him bribe ( dollars) ).

Mr. Rakesh, do not just show your eagerness, just bring result in next 24 hours. I have already sent you email.

I am sure AIRTEL is another scam like most scams in Indian government. AIRTEL people are really harassing NRI and foreigners for extra money or bribe. Such verification staff behave like govt agency.

Make sure if any one ever enter again without our permission in odd time, he will be booked and handed over to police .

Show me your resolution by activating phone in official manner in next 24 hours, else there is no point.

Mr. Rakesh, ( airtel), give me your direct phone number, if really mean to resove and eager for resolution. however I am not looking to continue with your third rate pathetic services, but I will make sure that you guys really learn lesson, when you harass people for extra money.

I have already sent complaint to appllate, nodal officer, 121 several times, but still no response.

I tried to get Nodal officer, Karnataka, Meenakshi Bora on[protected] nearly four times, but she never wanted to come on phone line to discuss. Howver the front staff promised that she will call back in 4 hours, but till now no response... Why don't they come forward and fix the loopholes and cleain up the staff who want to extort money from clients on the name of verification besides other intentions.

What a LOUSY company... no accoutability even at Nodal officer level. JUST A PURE SCAM, SCANDAL AT AIRTEL.

i am pissed off and really pissed off from airtel...first they cut my connection for non - submission of documents (which I did) after I ported from vodafone to airtel and after the promise it wont happen again...they do it for the third time and now their excuse is - "there is a new policy for MNP customers" which was not even informed to me!!...Why doesn't this Bharti Airtel just [censored] off from India...their relationship center is also pathetic as they say "we cant help" ... i mean is this an answer??? Can't they even provide an alternative solution by giving an alternative sim for 2 days due to sunday clash in operations!!!
