[Resolved]  ICFAI University — ICFAI Illegally violates PG Rules Injuring Credit Card Payers

As a social responsibility, I have used my HSBC credit Card Online ending with 6663 for the Admission Registration Payment on behalf of a neighbor Student named Niladri De (His ICFAI enrolment number [protected]).

However, on 28.02.09 the Payment Gateway Transaction for ICFAI failed due to defective ICFAI website/database error and an online notice on the same website indicated “due to server problem all transactions on that date failed and the time has been extended to a later date”.

Therefore, my credit card should not have been debited by ICFAI for a failed transaction nor I have received any confirmation for the same transaction but error indicated on the PG website. It is to be noted that other than the intended purpose (said Registration) ICFAI can not debit my card account for any other purpose/s where this debit problem making the fact more complicated as ICFAI is taking the advantage out of the students as the credit cards used are not held by the students but by their guardians or neighbors.

Unfortunately, on 3rd March 2009, the ICFAI has illegally debited Rs. 1000/- from my said credit card and many communications with ICFAI in this regard failed me to get a reasonable result. I am incurring bank charges till date for the said illegal transaction but ICFAI remained mum.

How can a University like ICFAI act in such illegal way injuring credit card holders and socially jeopardizing students?

Any remedy against such injury done by ICFAI is available to the card holder as well as to the student concerned?

We refer to the mail sent by the student on 28th February 2009, and the response given by Technical Support Team on 3rd March 2009, are pasted below.

Our records indicate that student did not appear for the Exams though he has downloaded the Admit Card for the same.

As the student did not attend to the exams, you are blaming that Icfai University has charged your credit card illegally (below mail by student claiming that he has done a successful transaction) and also note that Credit Card has been charged for intended purpose only.

We wonder why after four months time you are posting this on this site though we have done our job perfectly.

Mr. Ritesh Raj, Project Leader, Online Payment Gateway,

In response to your reply dated 16 June 2009, - that you have replied in response to my posting titled "ICFAI Illegally violates PG Rules Injuring Credit Card Payers" in the website https://www.consumercomplaints.in - I am to object your statements as follows:-

(1a) That your impugned reply is nothing but appears to be a tendency to exploit innocents student for your university's financial gain that too gain it by hook or by the crook. It is indeed sad to observe that a university professional like you are so prejudiced to the student.

I have snapshots of the entire transaction that might be referred when necessary so you will gradually come to know of my interpretation about you as “prejudiced and exploits”

(1b) That please note the "student email" referred by you does not establish the fact that said online transaction was successful in all respects, in fact it was me (the credit card holder) but not the student who did the credit card transaction and I have clearly noted that it was a failed transaction.

in support of my above claim that it was a failed transaction, you please refer the emails sent to me from [protected]@icfaiuniversity.org date26 March 2009 19:15 with the subject Transaction Failure vide your Order No :[protected]. I am attaching the copy of this mail below marked with the letters (Email A)

A credit card holder can use his card online but not the student so you can not say it was a transaction done by the student.

(1c) That Rs. 1000 from said credit card was only chargeable if both Gr 'A' and Gr 'B' admit card were issued where payment for Gr 'A' was paid by the student earlier and only the payment for Gr 'B' admit card was chargeable from said credit card. So you can not charge the credit card without issuing Gr 'B' admit card, you have issued only the Gr 'A' admit card to the student for which payment was made to you earlier by the student that too by cash or alternative means but definitely not from my said credit card. Please read as I am attaching a copy of email below marked with the letters (Email A) sent by you.

(1d) That besides technically too it was a failed transaction as your site failed to acknowledge it, also note on it was not only us who experienced this problem but probably all the students who tried to make the payment online on that particular date failed to do that as your website was defective on that date. You must know that after a successful approval by the bank a payment gateway redirects it to the user site (here your site in question) but then your site had failed to acknowledge it as a successful transaction so the student failed to download the Admit Card for Gr 'B' the intended payment was for Gr 'B' only but none. Please read as I am attaching a copy of email below marked with the letters (Email A) sent by you.

(2a) That referring your statement about what your "support wote" Please note that it was against Gr. 'A' admit Card but definitely not against Gr 'B' admit card as you have never issued this.

Read following regarding the Online Order No:[protected] sent by your support.

- The Icfai has a policy of acknowledging all the transactions on the site.
- Each transaction in the site is identified by a unique number as mentioned above. For a successful transaction the system will generate a confirmation email with order number and for a failed trasaction a cancellation mail will be sent to the candidate.

Hello sunil,
I have registered successfully for Jan 10 examinations through www.iutripura.edu.in/current_students.asp. Please try once again.
1.28 Feb 09 On-line Transaction Performed, failed.
2.03 Mar 09 ICFAI illegally debits Rs. 1000.
3.ICFAI'S Prejudiced and impugned stand.
4.Meanwhile card account incurred different charges.
5.Who will bear that CHARGE, Card holder or ICFAI?

Reason: On 16 June 2010 18:01 [protected]@consumercomplaints.com to [protected]@gmail.com

We received an email from the representative of the "ICFAI" university stating that he tried to contact you to resolve the issue but no reply has been received. Please reply to this email just to make sure that the provided by you email address is correct.
I faced similiar issue as I transfered money through Online Netbanking(ICICI) for Exam booking and the money has debited from my ICICI account. But when I am looking for the result its not showing the result on top of that asking for money as due.

I am not able to reach any TOLL free number provided and no any phone numbers are active now.

Hi,

I have attended the exams on April 2012. But now I am not able to view the
results as it shows 600 Rs due to view the results.

I have already paid money during booking the exam as shown the mail chain.
For the safer side today I have paid 600 Rs trough online.

Please help to sort out this issue at the earliest so that i can book for
next module.
