I had booked return tickets through Air India customer care[protected] for the travel of my wife and daughter from Toronto to Kolkata, India. The flights were scheduled for 23rd August, 2020. However due to COVID, the Indian government cancelled the flights. So I got the tickets cancelled on 17th August but since then I have not been refunded a single penny. I have followed up via email and phone several times in the last one year but in vain. All the customer care reps have to say is that they don't have the authority to issue a refund and asked to send emails to [protected]@airindia.in and [protected]@airindia.in. I have sent several emails so far but no outcome and I have called several times, with no resolution.
To add some more context, the original tickets were booked for 22nd March, 2020, but I had to get them pushed out to 23rd August as the flights for 22nd March were also cancelled by the Indian government on 19th March, 2020. Air India charged me the difference as well for changing the dates in spite of the fact that the Indian government cancelled the flights.
I originally paid 68169 INR and 66109 INR for my wife and daughter's tickets respectively amounting to a total of 2559.81 CAD for the original travel of 22nd March, 2020.
I then had to pay another 1372.65 CAD for the difference for moving the travel to 23rd August, 2020 as the flight were cancelled.
But since the flights for 23rd August were also cancelled, I did not push out the travel any further and got it cancelled on 17th August.
In total, I paid 2559.81 + 1372.65 = 3932.46 CAD but I have not been refunded anything until now.
