I am writing here to address my concern on behalf of a patient staying at the HDU unit of the oncology ward.
He had his tongue cancer operation on 3rd of February and was transferred from the Icu to the HDU UNIT on the 4th of February.
Since the patient’s family could only visit him once for an hour in a day and patient was not allowed to speak due to tongue operation, we were unaware that he was being left unattended and treated extremely badly.
At today’s visit dated (5th February) his wife got to know that he was left “completely unattended and he was sweating profusely”. No nurse/attendant came to him for enquiry.
He was supposed to be provided with a pen and paper which was also not at his desk.
This led to the patient feeling extremely sick and uneasy.
I would like to bring to your attention here that a patient who has just come out of a 5-hour long major operation and that too for something as critical as oncology, this kind of caretaking is highly unexpected and unacceptable from an esteemed organisation like yours.
I would request someone to take up this matter at the earliest and take immediate action and/or necessary steps to rectify and compensate for the patient’s physical and mental well-being as this is about his quality of life being compromised at the earliest stages of post operation which cannot be expressed from an institution deemed for hospitality and caretaking.
