I have recently purchased a Mobile SIM from BSNL from BURDWAN city of West Bengal. After activation I have found that SMS of ATM money withdrawal of some other person having account in SBI is coming to my Mobile. This has been shown to the BSNL office in Burdwan. However on checking the documents, he informed me that the Mobile no is correctly registered in my name. Regarding the wrong ATM withdrawal message coming to my mobile no, he showed helplessness and advised me to talk to State Bank Official. On approaching the concerned official of local SBI main branch, the reply was same. Since the message does not show full account no, nothing can be done. The different possibilities that came out in the above discussion is that
a) BSNL is issuing used old numbers without ensuring possibilities of fraudulent use of such re-used mobile numbers.
b) The real owner of the SBI account is not receiving the information of withdrawal from ATM. Therefore any fraudulent use of the ATM card will not be detected. This seriousness is being ignored by Bank. Since my mobile no is getting involved, any serious investigation will unnecessarily involve me.
Hence SBI may be asked to identify the real account holder and rectify the wrong entry if any.
