Chennai Traffic Police — Demanded bribe

Address:Chennai, Tamil Nadu, 600119

I was riding my bike, which is of karnataka registration, along with my friend, on the connecting road from ecr to sholinganallur junction named dr kalaignar karunanidhi salai. (Note. Both o[censored]s wearing helmets.)

I was stopped by 2 traffic police named n. Krishnan, and t. Balamurugan, literally pounced in front of my vehicle to stop and asked for my documents.

I showed the license, registration certificate which is in my brother's name, and the insurance and then they asked me about noc. (Non obstruction complaint as per the police officer n. Krishnan who has an experience of 33 years in the police department).

Since i doesn't know tamil, they talked with my friend the whole time who was pleading them to leave. I sensed that they were talking very harsh with him in tamil. They told us that we have to pay a fine of rs.3500 for not having noc. And that too the bike will be taken to the police station and that the owner of the bike (My brother) should come and pay fine and collect the bike.

Then after some pleading, he demanded nothing less than rs.1500. I told them that i have only rs.450 in my wallet. But they refused to take it and they asked us to go to the nearest atm and get the cash.

My complaint is about the money i paid. It went straight into their pockets.
Which is equivalent to paying bribe. (Which i dont want to) when asked about a receipt for the money i paid, they spoke very harsh to my friend in tamil, that the bike will be taken to the police station and kept there for 3 months then you will come to know...

I urge you to take action on the above mentioned officers, who are corrupt, on bribery and harassment

Regards,
Raj
