Passport Office Cochin Complaints & Reviews

I had the passport verification on 12/10/2022. It was shown as dispatched from Mumbai NSH on 18/10/2022 and no further updates . On contacting Passport office cochin, they told some of the applications are sent from Mumbai . I don’t kno why is it so as Aluva is just 1hr away from Kochi and they are dispatching that from Mumbai . When we contacted the passport seva kendra Aluva, they told all of the applications are being sent from Kochi only, those officials are just beating around the bush . We were not expecting this sort of delay as it is a life matter.

Above number is for the renewal of my Passport and I am a minor having 17 years of age. The appointment was postponed 2 times as I received message that the appointment have to be rescheduled on account of Covid. the third appointment scheduled on 11th March 2022 was not attended my be due to a sudden exam schedule imposed by my school ( I a CBSE 12the standard student).
On checking with customer care[protected] I was instructed to visit the passport sewa kendra without an appointment (as the website is not allowing me) as I had only made 1 cancellation as per their records and they will do the needful.
Based on this I visited the Trippunithura passport Kendra on 17th March 2022. However they refused entry and said to make a complaint to enquiry.[protected]@gmail.com or rpo.[protected]@mea.gov.in
Aleady rpo cochin replies to me stating that they have nothing to do with this.
Request your help to schedule a appointment for renewal of Passport at the earliest.

My both parents gave their passport for renewal one year back. My mother received her passport immediately. We waited for my fathers passport. By the time covid 19 cases increased and my father is above 65 years old, so he didn’t go to passport office for inquiries. November my mom detected with cancer for second time and December they shifted to Maharashtra for her treatment. Two days back we got a sms message that his file is processed for closure. We didn’t get a warning message or nobody informed us what was the problem for my dads passport renewal.

My file no. is CO[protected] and my application was approved on 10 June 2014.The Police Officer for police verification came after 11 days on 21st June. The acknowledgement of the report was shown in the tracking only after more than a week.Its been 40 days and i have yet to receive my passport since only after i have a valid passport can i write IELTS exam for which it is mandatory.The negligence of the official may very well cost me a year to join a foreign university. The consequences due to this delay can hurt my future.So please deliver my passport within a week if not within the 45 day benchmark since police verification is over.Please prioritize my application.

PASSPORT RENEWAL PROBLEMS
LOCATION: KOCHI OFFICE

During the months of November and December of the year 2008, I had experienced numerous problems for the renewal of my Indian Passport, which had previously been issued from the High Commission of India, at Nairobi Kenya. The renewal was supposed to be done at Kochi’s regional passport office and I was to return to Kenya with haste. But the renewal of the passport was a very exhausting, stressful and disappointing. It seems like the staff dealing with the renewal of passports are incapable of handling their duties optimistically. I hereby, request action by the government to alter operations at the office. Some of the key hitches I endured are briefly explained below.

MISINFORMATION
The most significant problem is the recurrent provision of misinformation. The staff who analyze the documents before allowing people to stand in line had gone through the provided documents and approved them. But after a long wait, I was told I am not eligible. This could have been avoided if the staff who analyzed the documents had identified the missing documents. After returning with the documents, we were told there is another document missing. This kept recurring, leading to delays, which resulted in me postponing my flight more than twice.

THE ECNR
The Emigration Check Not Required (ECNR) stamp must be stamped onto the passport of individuals who have attained their SSLC (SSC). I had presented my GCE Advanced Level results initially, with approval, which is equivalent to the pre-degree (SSLC/SSC) certificates of India. They took quite some time to understand that GCE is a globally recognized system from UK, but finally agreed. Upon the collection of the renewed passport I identified the Emigration Check Required (ECR) stamp and when asked, the staff dwelled on the same issue of the GCE A-Level’s credibility. They said they would require some time to modify it but my ticket was booked and everything was finalized.

CARELESSNESS
Carelessness is ample at the Kochi passport office. After approving the application, it has to be sent to the area police station. When I followed up the progress at the police station, I was told they received the application late as it had been sent to another station by the staff of the passport office. Luckily, the police station retrieved it.

THE LOCATION
The location is a very old building which has a very low capacity. The area for the initial queue is not roofed and therefore exposes the citizens to rain and the sun’s scorching heat. The interior area is enclosed and small too. The confined space leads to suffocation and exhaustion. Seeing a government office in such a state diminished my image of Kochi. It is not presentable to people from abroad. More facilities and systems, as well as counters must be enforced. This can also decrease the time one has to spend to be attended to.

ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIOR
The staff at the office are extremely rude and very arrogant and seem to forget they are in the government service. They must serve the citizens with compassion and respect. They often use sarcasm. This has to be changed as it is not professional or ethical.

I am hoping that action will be taken immediately.

Sir,

I had been to the Kochi Passport Office in the morning. I went with my wife and 2 month old son to apply for my wife's passport. We went and enquired one of the security and he said to stand in the first counter which is for applying passport for minors and handicapped. When we went there, we saw a big line than the other counters and when we checked with the other security, he said stand in 3rd or 5th counter. When we told we have a 2 month baby, he did not respond back proper and he said no other go. Then we stood in line, and that is where 3 people came direct to the counter without standing in the line saying that they had come before and missed taking xerox or it was not properly taken, so once they took it, they dont have to stand in line and they can come direct which the counter person was also OK with it. Then we submitted our application and we thought of registering a complaint so that if someone with a just born baby comes, then they should have preference over others instead of standing in line and in a place where you cannot even feed.

We went to the Security P.G.John who was in charge near to the stairs was talking on phone. 3 others were standing along with us and he started asking them what they want and when he came to us, we told we need to register a complaint, immediately his face changed and he started acting as if he is attending a phone, just said "Hello" and then kept the phone immediate. I was asking again that whom should I meet to register a complaint, this time he got very angry and in a very rude way, he said stand in that enquiry queue which was very long and ask them. Then I told him again that I need to meet someone who is responsible for hearing the complaints, he turned his face and and in a very hostile way he said write the complaint in a paper and put it into the complaint box and he moved on.


6 months back when I went to the same Passport Office, I had to meet the RPO to cross check some information and he did not give any respect and spoke in a very harsh and rude way. No one was there to question him. When he did the same thing to the Minister himself - Respected K.V. Thomas, then the RPO got it back.

I feel it should not be that only the ministers can take actions, everyone should be treated equally and actions taken.

I know nothing is going to happen to the security and the Passport Office, but atleast it would be useful when more complaints are registered against P.G. John and the Passport Office.
