Last night (technically, this morning) I had to send a package by cargo to Hyderabad from Chennai. I went to Chennai's Air India Cargo Division with a couple of my friends at about 1.30am. First of all, I had trouble finding the cargo office inside the Airport premises as there are no sign boards of any sort. This is NOT the complaint. India being my 'motherland', I have gotten used to asking passers-by for directions and not rely on signboards and addresses. It took about half an hour to find the place, but that's OK. As I said, I have gotten used to this.
So I found the place at about 2am. There were people waiting outside the cargo office but I couldn't find a way in. Then I was told that the office is closed. I was obviously shocked because Air India Cargo is supposed to work 24/7 and also it was really important for me to send the package. I went the window and found people sleeping inside with the AC on. I started banging on the window to wake them up and a man in his early 40s opened the door. When I asked him why they aren't working, he actually said, "Don't we people need food and rest? Come after 4am. Don't disturb till then".
The people waiting outside were probably too kind to disturb the officers who were 'resting' or may be they have gotten 'used' to the idea. But I haven't and I don't want to. I don't know how this blog/ forum works, who checks these posts and takes action. I actually don't care about taking action because I know everyone will eventually get used to everything. But here is my piece of advice: When you're in a hurry to send a cargo late in the night, DO NOT GO TO AIR INDIA CARGO.
End of the story - I sent my package through Jet Cargo spending an extra 100 rupees, which means a lot to me.
