I bought a Bangalore SIM on 12 May 2009, letting the Airtel employee there that I would be travelling from May 15 to May 25 and so please have my address verification done either before I left or after I returned. I was told not to worry because it would be done the next day. No one called and no one came. I was later informed that a representative came to verify my address on May 22!!!
Subsequently I was sent a text message informing me that my outgoing calls were going to be blocked because my address could not be verified. I called the Customer (so called "anytime anywhere") Service and could only get connected to non English recordings. After several attempts while on roaming at my own expense I finally managed to call Customer Service in Bangalore.
I explained the situation and requested they hold the 'block' on my number till I returned to Bangalore on the 25th. An Airtel customer representative called me on the 25th to inform me that someone would be coming to verify my address on the 26th morning. I said I would be available any morning till May 31st, after which I was going to be travelling again. Well no one called nor showed up to verify my address yet again. On the 26th evening my calls were blocked due the address verification issue. I called them, quite angry and irate, three times, (including the representative who called me on the 25th whose number was still in my call log) and all the three times my call happened to get disconnected with no return call to follow up. Discourteous to say the least!
I have yet to experience a more disorganised, disinterested, unprofessional bunch of customer care representatives, who display a basic lack of common sense and intelligence, in addition to a totally 'couldn't care less' attitude. They hang up on a call that requires initiative and problem solving skills at the most basic level. To add insult to injury I received an sms from Airtel after each interaction, asking me to reply to their query of whether I was satisfied with the service I received - and supposedly ALL my calls were recorded for quality control. That had to be the biggest joke! I think I will get another SIM card and see if it can get any worse than Bharti Airtel. Oh and pleeease, has anyone out there managed to find anyone of any consequence in the company to complain to, who gave a damn????? Oh yeah, this is definitely a sign of "India Shining". people!

Airtel prepaid mobile — UNDESIRED ACTIVATIONS
I HAVE AN AIRTEL MOBILE CONNECTION (PREPAID) NO [protected] UNDER U.P. WEST AREA.DIFFERENT SCHEMES ARE ACTIVATED ON MY NUMBER AND RESPECTIVE CHARGES ARE DEDUCTED ACCORDINGLY .IHAVE MANY TIMES REQUESTED THE AIRTEL AUTHORITIES TO SOLVE MY PROBLEM BUT THEY AT FIRST BLAMED ME OF GIVING FALSE INFORMATION AND AT PRESEN THEY ARE AVOIDING TO ATTEND MY CALLS.
