[Resolved]  Barclays Bank Credit Card — Charged Late Payment Fee even though cheque was dropped well in time

I started using the above mentioned card very recently & in the first billing cycle itself I got an bad experience of poor operations Management of Barclays Services.
My last bill was due for payment on 25th May 2008. I dropped the Cheque in the Bill Box which is located at lower parel station on 23rd May 08.(3 days prior to due date) Still in the immediate next statement of June 08 Bank charged me rs 634.45 as a late Payment fee. Then I started oral as well as in writing correspondence with the bank to cancel this undue late payment fee. But Bank Denied it & instead every month added further late payment fee on the original undue late fee of rs 634.45. This way from June till august it has recahed to extent of Rs 1900/-.
Even after expalining the bank several times the bank is not ready to agree & now the bank has started annying and frustrating me by sending 2-3 SMS every day saying that if I do not make an immediate payment, my name will be referred to Credit Bureau. I wanted help of the consumer forum to take this issue with the Bank.

SOME ADDITIONAL POINTS WHICH ONE SHOULD NOTE :

1) The selection of the Drop Box was done after taking confirmation from the Barclays customer service.

2) On 24th as well as on 26th may, I had received a call
from the collection department for the payment details. I had given them all the cheque details and also explained them the location of the drop box where the cheque was dropped. However as per next billing statement dated 5th June I
was charged Rs 634.45 as a consolidated effect of the late payment of previous statement of May 08.

3) I had called up the customer service on 16th as well as
on 17th June 08 to put up a request to waive of the late payment fees, wherein the executive informed me that the cheque was collected on 30th may, which means BARCLAYS took 7 days just to get the cheque collected from the drop box. And now this delay in collection is being charged to me as the late payment fee.
The executive further informed me that the cheques which
are dropped in BILL BOX takes realization time of minimum 7 to 8 days.
However this was not informed to me when I had called up the customer service on 22 may 08 before dropping the cheque to know the appropriate loaction of the DROP BOX . This fact is neither mentioned on their website noe on the product brochure. Barclays is simply cheating with their customer.

4) In anyways 7 to 8 days lead time for the collection of cheques is a very long & unjustified period for the task of collection when the other banks like HDFC, ICICI takes maximum 2-3 days for the same task.

5) Later I also started writing to the bank to waive off / cancel the charges but they simply & flatly denied it + kept on charging additional late payment fee on basic late payment fee of 634.45 which itself was under dispute with me. Barclays Can not force their own set of rules on the customers. SUCH POOR SERVICE WAS NEVER EXPECTED OUT OF A BANK WITH INTERNATINAL REPUTE LIKE BARCLAYS.

6) Considering the above situation, you can observe that I am not in fault, I have made the payment in due time still I am being suffered. Hence I would like to request you to take up this issue with The Bank to cancel the entire late payment fee on my account + also not doing such nasty treatment with any other customers.

Barclay Bank — wrong interest & late payment charges levied

Dear Sir,



i will present the facts of the case in a chronological order for you to understand that this delay is not my fault.



10 - Jun - 2008 I dropped cheque bearing 086732 dt. 10/06/08 of Rs.2090/- at Nehru Place drop box,



16 - Jun - 2008 I was informed by your call center that my cheque has not been recveid and probably lost during transit by your courier agency and they asked me to give a new cheque for the same amount, I asked them to come and collect from my office address. They categorically told me that I wont have to pay any charges as the cheque was lost due to negligence on part of your courier / collection guy.



19 - June - 2008 I was again contacted by you call center and told that they are sending a representative to collect the new cheque. A guy named Padam from your collection agency visited my office and I gave him a cheque bearing no: 086735 for an amount of INR 2090 vide Receipt no. DLCCBS 49028 DT. 20/06/08.



Now to my utter surprise, i have been again sent a statement which contains internst and alte payment charges. as you would appreacixte in the above matter i am nowhere at falult so i would request you to waive off the late payment charges & interest at the earliest and send me a freas stamtent.

Sir,
I had Rs.40638/- balance on my Barclays card. The due date was 7th June 2008. On 5th June, Barclays call centre gave a call to me saying that they have the facility of giving the cheque to their collection executives and i can do so. I enquired since my due date is 7th, will the late payment fee not charged in case i give them. Otherwise i can make the payment my self. They confirmed that charges will not be levied in case i give the cheque to them before the due date. The executive collected the cheque and given me the reciept. I have verified his identity proof.
But they have sent the cheque for clearing late and they say that the amount got credited to barclays bank only on 11th. So they have levied an interest and late payment fee on me.
At the first instant I would have made the payment by myself and made sure the payment reaches them in time.
This is a deliberate attempt by barclays bank to levy unneccesary charges.

My Barclay Card No. is [protected] & due i have deposited ch no.764813 HDFC dt.06.06.08 at your SKY PAK drop box Badarpur i have already requested to your coustomer car executive Mr Gaurav, Mr Rahul & Mr Amarjeet but still not received positiv response, now i am very disappointed because you can look my records as per all transactions & payment.

Now i have decided that i have to surrender my card.

i am not able to receiving the credit card payment and due to this i was not able to knoe my due date means on which date i had to made the payment.late fees is charged for that.so many times i had given to customer care that please send me the statement but they haven't send me the statement reflecting the previous made by me.nw in future i wont be able to make the payment till you sent me statement with the previous amount reflecting in the statments.

Barclay Bank Credit Card — Charged Late Payment Fee Even Though Cheque Was Dropped Well in time

My Credit Card Number is [protected].I have make purchasing of 10160/-. My credit card due date was 2nd June'08. I have already made the payment to barclay on 02nd June'08 through ATM drop box by Cheque . I also got three, four calls from barclay customer care in that days and I give the cheque detail and payment confirmation to barclay. After That barclay is saying they got the cheque on 11th June'08. They are charging interest on my next month statement. I Talked many time in there customer care center but they are not ready to reversal there charges. I'm getting everyday 10-12 sms and calls from barclay. from this numbers[protected],[protected],[protected],[protected],[protected],[protected] &[protected]. I'm alrady made my all payment but barclay charging interest and interest without any reason. This is very embarrassing how they can react with there customer. I Never seen such kind of cases in my life.I will never suggest to anybuddy to go for barclay credit card and i'm not reliable to pay any amt to barclay.
Dont worry Ganesh welcome to the club!! These scoundrels are masters at harrasing the customer. It will get worse be prepared. From March till date I have received over 700 phone calls for a similar dispute. And over 1000 sms. For an mount of Rs 114/-only which they have wrongly charged like your case.So your suffering has just begun. But I havent given up I am fighting. Soon I think I shall initiate legal action against this fraud bank.
Yeah Me too If they don't understanding our language. They are Thinking that customer is fool but they don't know our power. Barclay is very new in Indian Banking field. He needs to make gud relation between coustomer but his making a bad picture like that type of cases. If you got any way so please let me know. i'm really frustrated.

Barclays bank Credit card — Late Fee Payment

I am having a Barclays Bank Credit Card. Even though I have deposited payment of credit card well before 10 days of due date, I have been charged with late fees of Rs 600 (Approx) two times in last three months. When i asked about why this has happen i didn't got any solid reply. Every time customer care told me to wait for next 15 days. Still i am waiting for reply from BARCLAYS INDIA.
I got one message on my cell Rs. 40, 000 has been transfered to your barclays to HDFC card. I stunned I have never given this kind of request & I have no HDFC Credit Card. I Have given reques many times to customer care. No body listening my complaint what i can do with these people. They also send bill of Rs. 40, 000 and transfer charges Rs. 800. Who can pay this amount.

I have also decided to fight with citi for same reason... my payment due date was 05-jan, and i had droped cheque into their drop box on 01-jan... cheque gets cleared from my account on 05-jan morning itself... now bank is asking me to pay late charges + interest etc

Barclays — Wrong Late payment and Interest charges

After coming to Delhi as an honest customer I contacted your customer care and requested them to send me the statement on my email-id and i updated my new contact no. in their database.

Instead of sending me the statement they started sending me the message for payment and at last on 19th January they send me the statement for November'08 instead of December'08.

When i inquired about the matter i came to know that the reason of not sending the December Statement is that they have charged some wrong charges in December Statement.

When I asked them to send the statement to me they declined and asked to make the payment first.

Barclays Credit Card — late payment fee and about membership

I am holding a Barclays Credit Card since last 1 1/2 yrs. I dropped cheque in suggested drop box within due date and bank not processed my cheque in time. B'coz of late processing cheque by bank they added late fee and interest in my balance.!! i got a call regarding lifetime membership joining !!! they asked 4, 000RS for joining that circle i told am not having that much cash now!!they told they will take money from barclaycard n no over due payments for this so i agreed!!ut now they included overdue payments for that month's bill!!there is no service centres in chennai nor tamilnadu for contacting the bank too!!pls help us regarding this !!
I had the similar case like Mr ganesh Bhatt, I have dropped my cheque 5 days before the due date. Bank deposited the cheque very late and they have put penalty on me. I have never seen such banks in my life. There were some wrong transactions also found in my statement. I am fighting with the bank from last 15 months. Till No action from the Bank
see I have been sending cheques to bombay against the dues on the credit card as I donot have any contact with in chennai. There were a day or 2 days delay. and also I have stopped using the card since November and regularly I am getting the bill with penal interest and late payment fee and now i am getting a message that I have to pay Rs, . 6292.05 what way i will come out of this is really a big question because if i contact for settlement they want me to pay the whole amount and every month this is creeping. is there any forum to contact in order to settle the issue. I wont be in position to pay the late payment fee and interest charges claiming an amount for which i was sincerely not liable.
