[Resolved]  Building — illegal construction

We are resident of 4th Block, Mogappair west. We would like to bring to your notice that the owner of Door No.4/913 J.J. Nagar, Mogappair West, Chennai – 37 (Near Priya Matriculation School) is currently constructing a portion on the third floor of the house illegally. The construction is going on in full swing and it is on the verge of completion. He is constructing the portion on the third floor at the rear(back area) so that it is not visible from the front to the passersby.

In contravention to the Planning Permission issued by CMDA rules, only ground floor and first floor is allowed for construction. But he has constructed Ground Floor, First Floor, Second Floor and now Third Floor, which is given for rent. There is no approved plan and structural design involved making the building prone to collapse. It is a row house measuring 13ft x 36ft ( total =468 sft)with common side walls. The construction has only brick work and no pillars to hold the structure making the structure very weak & unstable ,which may collapse anytime.

Cracks have developed in their building & debris, cement, bricks have fallen on the neighbouring houses after the recent earthquake in April 2012. We are worried that the structure has weakened & will collapse into the neighboring houses where the potential for damage to life and property is high.

He has constructed the second floor which is not allowed as per the municipal building rules in that area. The ventilation and natural lighting for nearby houses is getting affected. He has bribed the local authorities for constructing the second & third floors. We would also like the Vigilance department to take special notice of and involve them in this case, to ensure that justice is met without corrupt practices. Also he has constructed the next portion @ door no. 4/914 J.J. Nagar, Mogappair West, Chennai – 37, which is also illegally constructed in contravention to the Planning Permission issued by CMDA rules. This house also has ground floor, first floor and second floor. We hope that action is taken immediately.
