[Resolved]  Dr Agrawal Eye Hospital — Free Eye check up Hoax?

Address:Chennai, Tamil Nadu

My mom and dad went for checkup in this eye hospital and they said it was free. The report for both said they had cataract that had to be operated as soon as possible. Later my parents went to Vasan Eye Clinic for checkup (paid) and the doctor over there said there was no cataract and nothing to worry and infact do not touch the eyes. Infact my dad's one eye's optic nerve had failed long time back and could not be revived (He had a surgery long time back at sankara netralaya). At this point of time we are financially fine and are able to afford for the test, medicines and care. But if this is a scam - the financially poor will suffer. I doubt whether the hospitals profits 44.44% in March 2010 (I googled and I am not sure) were because of this fraud.

You are very right. They give this free coupons everywhere. Anna anagar tower, Market places and even in provision shops. idea is to increase the out patient numbers and there by increasing the number of surgeries. I am also told that this hospital has decided to operate all those who are above 40 for cataract (confirmed by one of the branch managers)

Ditto, same thing happened for my dad, he went for a small infection in his eye and was asked to do lot of tests and doctor created a state of panic for my dad and rushed him to take the tests at the main center. Having paid about 4000 Rs and waiting for one whole day to test and consultation with doctor, we came to know that my dad needs to get cataract operation done urgently. They were planning a vacation so we postponed. The doctor who consulted us gave his mobile number and the name of the lens he will be using in the surgery and told the approximate cost is Rs 62000 for one eye. Our mediclaim poicy does not cover that much, hence we decided to hunt in some other hospital, then we came to Udhi eye Hospital in chennai. They just charged Rs 200 for some basic tests and then 3 doctors consulted, retina test done. They told that there is no sign of cataract and hence for one more year he need not do anything to his eye. I did not imagine this at all... That such a reputed hospital simply drag people and tear their eyes in the name of surgery for money. Please let this be known to all.
I strongly disagree with these.
As I live in chrompet I took my dad who came from my native to Vasan eye care chrompet. In spite of Saturday and heavy crowd there they finished entire eye examination with in 35 minutes including dilution examination. that doctor told nothing to worry and given glasses and medicine for 30 days. In spite of his 18 yrs of diabetees and 10 yrs of BP they told everything is normal.

Having doubt on this i went to agarwal in gopalapuram. they took almost whole day. but eye examination was thorough and they detected diabetis retinopathy in my father's eye; they showed that to be by one zeiss photo machine. the doctor explanied me about the disease and its progress and treatment. they asked my father to undergo one injection for rs.10000/- and lasers for around 6000/-. they told us to wait for 2 years for cataract surgery.

before starting treatment i got confirmed about my father's disase with sankara nethralaya near pammal and they also confirmed diabetis retinopathy. I dont think dr.agarwal with padma sree award and all that will do any hoax.

because of dr.agarwal my father is getting a better treatment and my mother got a free eye check up.

hope you guys can speak to some authorities there and can understand about things happening
Dear nanathri,

TTK found out some irregularities in agarwal eye hospital and they are not giving approvals for agarwal eye hospital. if the visual acuity is more than 6/18 one can be operated for cataract but in agarwals they operate even if the VA is 6/12.
hi, the agarwal hospital in cathedral road is not responding to its customer calls properly. they just direct it to the other numbers and they simply cut the calls how many times to make a call yar fed up of it. instead of going to agarwal hospital we can go to a normal hospital.
Hi,
Be care ful on 31st of August Agarwal's Eye Hospital anna nagar is going to conduct a free retina screening camp. Make use of this camp but do not go back to them. ask them for report and go to some other good hospitals. I suggest Uma eye clinic, anna nagar.
I also went to both Agarwal and Vasan for cataract opinion - Agrawal first of all not great service and kept quoting high prices for procedures without telling why - I went to Vasan and different story - they had better equipments and really good service and honestly said what was wrong..
one more caution. agarwal eye hospital is using its patients to train their new surgeons. it happens everywhere but agarwal eye hospital is experimenting it too much that even the doctors working there are not happy about it. please be careful..
Now Agarwal eye hospital is opened 5 new hospitals in Bangalore to hoax people of Bangalore after conning tamilnadu for years. In Bangalore also they are distributing free coupons for eye checkup at all the parks, restaurants, apartments and in all public places. I had gone for a checkup because of some eye irritation. The place is shabby without any proper equipment and I think the doctors are all juniors and I had been told that I have cataract in both my eyes and had to get surgery immediately by quoting hefty 65K per eye. I was shocked to hear that as my eye sight is normal and went there for a small irritation. Then I went to Naryana Nethralaya for second opinion and they told me that my eyes are perfectly normal and gave some drops for allergy. I think the doctors have been told to catch as many as peoople for cataract surgery as they can make big money out of this.
Beware of this new chian of eye hospitals and their gimmicks of free check up. This is only to con people and suck more money from us.
The problem was not able to see clearly. So i went to Agarwal hospital and checked my eyes around one year back, and they suggested to take eye drops and it does not work and i had a huge problem again (eye pain) and i went back again, they simply said the eye drop is heavy-dose for me. But the thing is that they making us to come back again and again to earn again and again. Here, my question is they will collect fees at one time if they need much amount at the same time. Why they are doing like these ... because of them others also spoiling images and getting trouble in this regards. This is simple think but will make sense. Sathish
I Personally don't think it is so bad. i feel the other hospitals are insecure that 5 hospitals have opened up in a big boom in a short span of time in Bangalore. I had got my In laws for eye screening and i dont think any diagnosis was wrong. The doctors are very professionals and hospitality was excellent.I think people are getting confused with this hospital as Dr Suniths Agarwals. But the fact is that its a totally different hospital and in no way connected to Dr Sunitha Agarwal. Its a Chennai based Dr Amar Agarwals hospital. I am very happy and i think people should not misguide others with the wrong info or spread allegation in a cheap way.
By giving free coupons the hospital is spreading awareness about the importance of the eye check up and is bringing the hi tech quality care to even the poorest of the poor. Why did the other hospitals not give any free check ups soo far?
When i took my in laws two poor patients were given very good concessions for the procedures because they could not afford it. There is a sense of charity in that hospital what i have noticed.

Eye Care/ Eye operation — Bad response in phone and Doctor is not available all the time

The hospital does not provide good service .
The employees are like goverment employees , they do not pick calls and does not talk well as well .

The doctor is never available even though in emergenry .

If this kind of attitude is shown .. soon .. the hospital will be publisised as most unfriendly hospital .
Who does not know how to treat the patients .
agarwal eye hospital worst hospital, irresponsible services, i should disgrade this hospital
agarwal eye hospital dont play aged people life, plz do cataract surgery well, chennai people u too plz avoid agarwal's eye care,
I had been to Dr. Agarwal's and the service was fine I didnt feel that I was charged more, coz back in my hometown (Thoothukudi) I went for checkup and they charging atleast twice more than wat I was charged in Dr. Agarwal's ... There were polite and helpful Drs in Dr. Agarwal's
I had been to this place ( Dr. agarwal's Velacher) about 2 months back. All i can say in a single work is, it sucks ! . First of all, they take very logn time to see you and there is so much crowd i doubt they are actually do their job correctly.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I went for simple routine eye check to check and change my reading glasses if requried. After an unduly long time of making me wait for 3 hrs, they gave me a prescription. I went to nearby shop ( i did not order the new glasses here), whcih is also very famous ( Vision express) and ordered for my new glasses. WHen ig to the new ones, i tried it for a few days and my eyes started paining and watering. WHen i went to Dr. Agarawal's again, they said the optician did not make the glasses for the readings they presecribed for ( They checked my new glasses).

WHen i went to the optician, they checked my eyes again and said the readings were wrong and Dr. Agarwals's gave a wrong prescription adn they cant be held responsible for that. I had spent Rs4000 on my new frame/glass but i cant use it now and i have to see a new opticina now.

Lesson - Dont go to Dr. Agarwals' in Velachery adn the other one always order new glasses fram the same place where you got your eyes checked. ELse, both will blame each other and you will end up losing
agarwal eye hospital really big headache and worst hospital, irresponsible services, this ppl very slow in work hospital, we need to spend one full day for common checkup..
Receptionist send the patient to doctor not in a order wise. They didn't give the priority . Very worst service i feel very bad. This problem I faced in Vellore branch 3rd floor.
