[Resolved]  IT Department / NSDL — PAN NUMBER NOT CLARIFIED UPON

I had been paying my income tax against my PAN No. AOBPS5943K in my then name PARAMJIT SINGH since last 9 years.In 2010 i added my surname "BHAMRA" to my existing name "PARAMJIT SINGH" .My name now stands corrected in my service records as PARAMJIT SINGH BHAMRA and applied for the correction in my PAN Card for the same.I had earlier applied for the correction a year earlier too but nothing happed.Once again i applied for correction in November 2010 and it has already been more than 3 months that i have not got any response from the IT department of any sort of cofirmation as to whether i will be now alloted a fresh PAN No. due to the changed surname or should i continue to deposit TDS against my existing PAN No.From the FAQ available on the incometaxindia.gov.in website it is clearly given how the first letter of the individuals surname is a part of the PAN No. that implies that i must be alloted a fresh PAN No. instead on the existing PAN No. I have given a written application to my assessing officer regarding this problem but nothing has been done in this regard this.The assesing officer interestingly refused to accept the printout that i showed him saying "plese contact your assessing officer". I have wasted my 3 full days runing to 3 different IT Offices located at Delhi first at CP,then at ITO to my assesing officer who directed me to RK Puram office the RK puram office again redirected me to the Jhaendewalen office and finally they told that recently the office has been moved to Vaishali,Gaziabad.After all these efforts which have cost me both time & money as no one picks the office no. at most of the IT Offices or the no. posted on the websites are either outdated or non-functional.

What should be my next step to resolve this issue?Is RTI the only last resort i should now opt for?
Please suggest me .
