[Resolved]  Lifestyle — Markdown Items at full price...

Address:Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Hi,

I am a regular customer of lifestyle stores across India and decided to visit one of their stores in Ahmedabad (near S.G Highway). I live overseas and since I am leaving India soon I decided to finalise my shopping. So, I prepared myself for a big shopping day at lifestyle. When I entered the store (On 28 feb 2011)and as I was browsing around, I picked up few items that I liked ..Out of this merchandise, few were some artifical jewellery+women's accessories. When I decided to finalise my purchase I noticed that few items ( mainly women's accessories) had 50 % written in bold near the barcode....The sales person started to scan them and with no hesitation or acknowledgement turned a blind eye to my fuddled look.

This is where the confusion and inconvenience started for me. I asked their staff if the item has 50% written on it why are you selling it to me for full price (first of all I went with an intention of paying full price...but what irritated me,please read on) To this the reply was " these markdowns are of the sale period and now since the sale is over they are back to full price" . Fair enough. As a customer if I am spending thousands of rupees in the store I expect to see up-to-date merchandise and please tell me that lifestyle can afford enough stickers and staff to overwrite the price of an existing merchandise when it becomes full price...no offense.

I requested to speak to the store manager assuming a solution might come up.

Mr Sujit was the store or duty manager that day ... I explained the scenario to him and he started nodding immediately confirming what I am saying is correct. But instead of coming up with a solution/explanation...His answer was.... he can honour the discount but it will come out of the sales persons salary (because according to him the sales person didnt do his job of taking the markings off or whatever) I really got uncomfortable because from a managerial perspective I expected him to resolve this matter.

He then rings another guy (called Mr Tareek) who according to him is the head of this particular department. He conversed with him and apparently Mr Tareek told Mr sujit to say sorry to me and thats all.

It has become a common attitude here to apologise to the customer and pretend everything should be fine. I didnt wanted to create any dramas and decided to leave.

I made my mind to do something about it and hence I am writing to you guys and want to see what happens to this complaint. My whole day was wasted and I ended up buying nothing. If lifestyle is a national brand, then I expect the brand to be of international standards. If a similar situation had arised overseas, they honour the mistakes they make. And it was not the matter of discount but the whole situation seemed dodgy to me.

I wrote down the barcodes of some Items. They are as follows :

[protected] Rs 99
[protected] Rs 249
[protected] Rs 149

Awaiting your reply.

Kind Regards,

Rahul Bhatt
