[Resolved] Reader's Digest Sweepstakes 2010 With Hsbc — RD Sweepstakes 2010 Genuine or Scam ?

Address:Mumbai City, Maharashtra

Hello All,

1. Today morning I received Reader's Digest Sweepstakes 2010 documents asking me to participate. I had never seen a better or more convincing promotional offer. They asked me for my Credit card Number [I have an HSBC credit card and this contest is in affiliation with HSBC]. They would charge me for 449 Rs. for an annual subscription. In order to get this subscription they included a Car Prize [Chairman's Promptness Prize], coupon cheques to be entered in the lottery, A star prize coupon.

2. I called my bank HSBC and they confirmed that this was indeed true. I called RD office and they asked to call on Monday as everything was closed for the weekend. I verified that the finance director was indeed 'Punit Poonegar' as listed on the website and in whose name the documents were sent.

3. I researched extensively online combing every forum and website and have made the following observations -
a. Everyone I know has received a car coupon for the BEST car prized 15 Lacs - Ford Endeavor. However each thinks that only they have received the best car offer.

b. Reader's Digest is dwindling in its subscription in India. Once a great magazine with brilliant articles it is now not so good. So this is a great marketing stint to get you to pay your subscription fees thereby assuring that the prize money will come or not come but the money has definitely gone from your account. Which means once at least you have been duped.

c. Let's take it statistically - For example 5000 people fall for this [it is definitely more considering India's population]. So 5000 innocent people pay 450 Rs. = 5000 * 450 = 22, 50, 000. Twenty-two lac fifty thousand rupees !!! All thanks to each one o[censored]s. They have assured prizes upto 1 crore. Upto 1 crore does not mean it will be 1 crore. Even 300 Rs. is a legit prize money in such a language. Out of what they get even if they give out few thousands of rupess worth of prizes they make a whooping profit. So think about it.

d. There has been a long history of people writing that once they have fallen for this once they keep falling for it again. The letters have been carefully worded - Words like these encourage you to participate - 'Everyone discards their coupons; Make sure you don't else you will never win'. Please do not be duped by such things - they play with psychology, greed and desire. They play with people who want money and are desperately in need of it. So please make a wise decision. I tore mine to pieces; hope you will do the same.

Thanks,
An Indian Citizen

I have also received the same thing and was about to fill the form but read you article and feel not to go for it.

Magazine subscription only for prize money is not worth.

Thanks
Thanks a lot for your excellent suggestions with superb wise way.I also got the same but its directly from readers digest and no colloboration with any banks, it was looking like genuine i was in dilemma whether to get subcribe if no prize atleast we will get some magazines for 12 months or leave it, i was in two mindedness but after seeing yours logical thinking i am 100% agree with your opinion. Its nothing but encourage to get the customers with misusage of the indian population in attractive and wise way to make them in to 12 months subscription. It is purely meticulous way of business tactics.
thanks once again.
Hi I too received those documents by today, but in those they didn't ask any bank details they just gave one pink slip with number of stars to scratch, and car lucky draw. so tell me what to do now, shall i post those envelops? one more thing in those envelops there is no identification of from address(my address), so how they decide who have posted it?did really any one won the car? in their website they have listed the winners for past five years.

Hi, these offers are really showing dare to fool the public in open also in writting and no government body is there to object it .
Atleast we should beaware and dont waste our money and let others educate .
Hello friends ! I also agree with all of you. If they offer a prize along with the subscription, thats ok. But here they are offering subscription along with the prize. I want to ask readers digest that which is their primary product. Is it their magazine or their lottery. Stop doing all this. You are not making fools of people, but you are making fool of yourself because you people don't understand that how much such an act of your is harmful for the reputation of your own own company. Stop doing this with such a great magazine.
Hi friends, me too got this senseless letter.Timely i saw this.I sincerely appreciate your social responsibility.
Thanks a alot to the blog

highly And Sincerly appreciated effort of above said consumer.

Indeed it is true evaluation and there nothing like sweeeepstake drws.
I feel something is fishy when they asked to return their pink ticket within 7 days without any postage charges, how it could be?just a Daylight robbery.
After doing lot of research about the magazine and its concern company, .
I arrived at the conclusion that its just a another marketing gimmick to fool the innocent people.
i have also recived same documents. thanks for awareness about it.
very true. I have also been cheated very badly. I had sent a cheque for Rs. 1900/- towards first instalment for a special jewellery scheme which is already cleared as per my bank statement. The cheque was sent a month ago and has been cleared couples of weeks back and I am yet to receive the jewellery ordered. This is apart from the the subscriptions that I have paid for the books.

Is someone listening??????????????
i do agree with all the comments, for the past 3 yrs i'm recieving the monthly magazines, selected editions etc in the hope of getting some money to clear off my debts and to help my father in doing his dialysis. Thank u all 4 ur timely advice.
i too received an email from Sweepstakes. they asked me to play the card game and i won the maximum amount and the Endeavour. but later it stucked to my mind that how can they give such a huge amt.instead of a 1 year subscription that too only of 449/-. i went thru Google search and confirmed that's it fake.
same i recived today but thanks to your article..now i am ver careful.thank a lot
