Savings Account — Core Banking

Address:Indore, Madhya Pradesh

Sir,

My parents and I have saving account with State Bank of India with Antophill, Mumbai branch. Recently we have shifted to Indore on temporary basis. My father wanted to transfer amount from his savings account to my savings account (home branch for both the account is Antophill Branch, Mumbai). He gave me a multi-city cheque for the same. When I went to deposit the cheque in Patrakar Colony Branch, the gentleman on the counter refused to accept the cheque stating that as per the rules, even multi-city cheques will not be accepted at any branch other than home branch. I told him that when the branch has core banking facility than why can't the cheque be deposited here....so he said that as per revised core banking rules, one can deposit cash to any other branch but cheque can be only deposited in the home branch. Can I get a clarification on this as I fail to understand the benefit of core banking facility. Does this mean that if a person has to deposit a cheque, he has to visit ONLY home branch???(even if it means he/she has to travel to mumbai or any other city!!!!!).

Kindly advise.

Regards,
Keerti Varma.
