[Resolved]  Southern Railways — Theft in Train

Address:Chennai, Tamil Nadu

I would like to narrate a painful incident experienced by me in train journey.
I, R.Shanthi, aged 55 yrs. was travelling from Pune to Chennai with a reserved ticket in Sleeper Class compartment (1041-CSTM Chennai Exps, Coach S4, Seat No.68 on 22.08.10 at 6.10 p.m departure from Pune. When I entered the train in Pune, I found a group of people occupying my compartment. Even after pleading with TT, I couldnt vacate them. they were sitting here and there within the coach and I couldnt even stretch my legs as 2 persons were just sitting near my feet My request to vacate them was in vain. In the midnight I felt some disturbance and I woke up and found that those unreserved passengers had moved out and my gold necklace of 3 soverigns and cash worth 5000/- was missing in my handbag. I could make a complaint only after reaching chennai as the TTR who came at 7 a.m next day least bothered to take down my complaint. To earn the gold worth 40000/- it took 2 years to save which I lost within a few hours of my journey in the train. Because of the dereliction of the duty of TTR, I lost my property worth 40000/-.I would request that Railways should identify such culprits and take stringent action against them.

Regards,

I have recently had a similar experience and at this point am thoroughly disgusted with Southern rail.
Travelling from Stretham, 18th September, on the 0945 to connect to Gatwick airport, I left ( yes, my own fault I agree ) a very nice and rather expensive barbour coat complete with cell phone/camera and various sundries in its pockets. Less than one hour later at Victoria I was able to connect with Southern rail to report this loss.
Itm took me approx 20 mins holding time on a friend's cell phone. I was told that every train was checked end of line and that I would be contacted should anything be found. I requested a claim number but was simply told I would be contacted. It seemed likely I would retirive my coat as the train was due to line end fairly soon. I flew to France. Upon returning to UK I called immediately on the Monday 27th Sept. They had no record of my ever reporting the loss and gave me another number at Victorai, which is apparently lost property, telling me that there was only one person doing everthing so I may have a wait to get assistance---they also gave me a LP number this time. After no less than 42 attemps, leaving messages on answer machine, I called the origainal number and requested a receipt, or indeed any form of documentation in order to possibly claim from my travel insurance. I am back home in US and still waiting. The cell phone by the way is still active. No one has removed the sim card. I had sent text and left message re reward. My thoughts are that this coat is sitting somewhere at lost property and wil, after a suitable period of time, be seen adorning some lucky person who just may happen to have connections with the railways.
I am disgusted. People generally complained about BR but at least staff were somewhat attentive, there were more of them, thay had some pride in the job.
I won't go on but Britain is sinking fast.
