From November 21, all public transport buses have been allowed to take fifty percent extra passengers of their seats. Cluster buses are not an exception. Before this also, it is daily seen that marshals on duty in the buses do not vacate seats when all seats are occupied.
Now passengers are found standing in the buses and marshals are carelessly either sleeping on their seats unconcerned about the standing passengers. Today at Dhaula Kuan, I boarded bus No.1545 on route 729 at 6.10 AM for going to Bangla Saheb Gurudwara. There were 12 passengers already standing in this bus and I too joined them. I was looking for the marshal on duty as he was not among the standing passengers. After seeing backside of this bus and finally I located marshal comfortably sitting on first single seat reserved for Sr. Citizens. He was wearing a jacket and a woollen cap and thus could not be recognised. When I asked him, are you a marshal on duty in this bus. When he said, 'Yes', I asked him to vacate the seat for me. He was expecting this and started arguing and saying, 'baithna hai kya' and kept sitting. I had to ask him four times to vacate the seat for me and only then he stood up. Driver was watching this and to my surprise, he had switched off CCTV monitor screen, all lights in front portion, LED display inside the bus and as usual in cluster buses, driver was also without a mask. While getting down, I asked marshal to which depot this bus is from. To this he replied, 'Kair Depot'. Now DM of this Depot is perhaps not aware of the Transport Deptt. regulations wherein marshals are allowed to occupy seats till all seats are occupied. Thereafter, they are supposed to stand and perform duty. DIMTS may please take suitable action against the marshal and driver of the said bus and intimate me the action taken.
