From 2nd of July, 2018 to 17th of November, 2018 I was a tenant at Room #D1, 3rd floor, 32 RK Grabhouse Property, 36 Rose Garden Road, near Mahaveer Konark Apartment, a property managed by ‘Grabhouse’. Prior to moving in I paid two months deposit in advance, a sum of ₹16, 000.
On 23rd of October, 2018 I was given less than a month’s notice to vacate the property, as the building was to be refurbished due to a change of management. I did speak to the owner, informing him that I would be interested in continuing my tenancy, he referred me to the new managing agent.
At the time I was paying ₹8, 000 per month but, after speaking to the new manager I was informed that the new rent would increase to ₹19, 000. I decided not to pursue what I considered an exorbitant increase, and far beyond my budget.
I found alternative accommodation and on 17th of November, 2018, I moved out. Before leaving, I explained to the lady at reception that I would not be returning, and that I had left the key in the door. It was very difficult trying to make her understand, due to language difficulties and I was also in a hurry, as my taxi was waiting.
When I started receiving dozens of calls from my former agent I blocked the number, believing that it was merely a ‘sales pitch’ from them.
During the time I was their tenant, I did not default on our agreement, I was clean, quiet and tidy and paid my September and October rents on time. You can imagine therefore, my surprise and outrage upon receiving the following text today (See attachment) in which they accuse me of the theft of a TV.
I would also add that I have been checking my bank account daily, as to date they have not returned my deposit.
Your help would be greatly appreciated in this matter.
