Idea Cellular — Sms from bank, gas agency etc being delayed or not being delivered

After I stopped internet data service on my 3G phone with idea cellular number, I am getting erratic sms service wherein sms alerts on bank transactions as well as messages from my HP cooking gas agency have not been delivered and a couple of messages that got delivered were delayed.
