On December 22, I received a package from my mother in USA. This was delivered to me in Kolkata by 24 Parganas Garia PO (700084). Customs duty of over Rs3000 was levied which I paid in full at the time of delivery. The package had been opened, I am assuming by Customs at some point. On receipt of the parcel, I opened only to find a number of items missing, eg. pants, chocolates, trinkets - all sent to me for Christmas. It took more than 5 days for Customs to release the item and another 2 days to reach me from the PO ! It is very sad that people in authority in our country steal and remove items from overseas packages. This gives a very bad name to our great country. I know I will not get these items returned to me but some steps should be taken by India post to stop this illegal practice.
