I took the IndiGo flight number 6E 6827, from Delhi Terminal 1 to Bengaluru, Kempegowda Airport Terminal 1, on 03-05-22. The check-in baggage was a large Safari bag containing my usual stuff, along with a leather bag containing 20, 000 INR in denominations of 500/-.
At the IndiGo counter in Delhi, I deposited my bag for check-in, where they stuck the baggage tag (but no plastic lock on the zipper). The next time I saw my bag, it was at the Kempegowda Airport. The passenger luggage was supposed to come on Belt 1 but without any announcement, it was redirected out of Belt 5.
Outwardly, there was no sign of any tampering, but on reaching home, I opened my bag and found the leather bag containing the cash was open and its flap folded, as if someone had hastily tried to open it. Upon finding the wad of cash, I could immediately see that it looked disturbed and reduced by more than half.
The side of the notes was crumpled from being pulled by the rubber-band, and out of the total amount, only 5500/- were left.
I have been trying to reach out to the airlines and the Kempegowda authorities, but so far, have found no direct communication route with either of them, nor a recourse.
A customer puts great trust in such matters, that their luggage would not be tampered with or mishandled but this is a clear breach of trust. I believe the matter should be thoroughly investigated, the CCTV footage scrutinized for the loading and unloading.
I expect a refund for the same, as it is a big amount for someone like me.
