Individual — Unjustified penalty

Dear Sir,
My name is Sankaramoorthy A. On 11.05.2022, at 10..35 hrs, I have requested for 2 return tickets (one for me and another one for my Daughter Mrs. Subbulakshmi M) at the Maraimalai Nagar Railway station to go to Beach Station by giving 30 rupees for each ticket. We commenced our journey by 10.50 hrs. On the way, unexpectedly for an medical emergency, we have been forced to get down at Tambaram Sanatorium station. After medical treatment, again we picked another local train at the same station and at 14.30 hrs, we reached our destination Beach Station A ticket checking officer checked our tickets and asked to pay the penalty of 265 rupees from each o[censored]s as a total amount of 530 rupees. Though we explained in detail everything, she accused us to pay the penalty by mentioning the following reasons.

01. She told us that we have taken the ticket at 10 hrs (but we bought the ticket exactly at 10.35 hrs at the Maraimalai Nagar counter) by showing the seal on the ticket (manual )as just 10 (there is no mentioning of "HRS") and since we reached the destination after 4 hrs and 30 minutes and I should have reached there within 1 hr.

02. And she accused us that we should reach only the destination compulsorily without getting down into any other IN BETWEEN stations at any cause within the stipulated time and it is offence against the Indian Railways Rules.

I requested her in a polite way to show us if they have any written instructions with her for justifying this as a real offence but she had no proper reply and continuously forced us to pay the penalty.

Then I myself checked in the railway related websites and I explained her the following points

01. Within one hr after taking the ticket, we must have to commence the journey and we have bought the ticket at 10.35 and by 10.50 hrs, we went inside the train.

02. The return ticket is valid up to midnight on 12.05.2022 but we reached the destination point at 14.30 hrs on 11.05.2022 itself.

03. In the penalty lists which were mentioned in the Indian Railways websites, have not the particular offence.

Though after explaining the above points, she was not ready to hear and was not ready to show me the proof or justification in written format and she repeatedly told that the ticket was expired and we must have to pay the penalty.
Since we had some important personal works and also to maintain our dignity in that place where lot of passengers there were viewing us accused, we paid the penalty and left that place.

We kindly request you to go through this issue and we believe that we will get proper proof and justice soon.
