Laxminarayan Shetty — Laxminarayan Shetty An extortionist in the name of social activism

Laxminarayan Shetty may seem like a simple hotelier who runs Krishna Bhog restaurant in Mulund; however, under the faux exterior lies a heinous extortionist and a long list of notorious criminal activities.

The so-called social activist and political enthusiast, in the name of RTI activism, has a get-rich-quick scheme in place by threatening builders in Mumbai.

The Mulund police disclosed that Shetty, along with two other accused in the case, Pankaj Chandanshive and Anil Mhaske, had demanded Rs 2 lakh from Mumbai developer, Sanjay Gharat for not filing a complaint to the BMC against him.

Gharat had plans to refurbish an old house with his cousin; however, in January, Shetty allegedly met him to sought Rs 1 lakh for not blocking the repairs by filing a complaint.

According to the FIR, Gharat paid Rs. 50, 000, to no avail; a few months later, Chandanshive disjointly approached Gharat and demanded another Rs 1 lakh, but the complainant only paid Rs. 10, 000.

Later, Mhaske allegedly tried to extract more money by saying that he was a part of the extortion group of Shetty and Chandanshive.

This time, the complainant approached the police and registered a complaint against them after being repeatedly harassed by the three.

The police arrested the three men and sought their remand for a week in order to investigate whether the trio was a part of a bigger extortion racket.

Laxminarayan Shetty is also an alleged partner in business with a drug peddler. He is reportedly involved in the drug syndicate business due to his connections in the market.

Shetty and Chandanshive have two previous criminal cases pending against them.
