I want to officially register a complaint against you against Aviral Sethi, EMP ID 00027786 from Institute of orthopedics who happens to be a "Doctor" of Orthopedics department.. The incident that I am reporting has occurred on 9th Sep, 22 at 8.15pm. Aviral Sethi came to our cabin 5738. He asked me what is the status of the patient. I replied him saying that she is ok. I told him that she is critical patient who is waiting for dressing. I explained to him that we have put a request for dressing at 5pm in the evening. However, no Doctor has attended her yet. I requested him if he could call the Doctor. I also told him that my mother was in stress last night and that she is yet in delibrium and she is a senior citizen aged 69 yrs. To this Mr. Aviral Sethi replied very arrogantly saying that " There are many trauma cases in emergency. We cannot leave them for your one patient." I explained him that my mother is a critical patient and she showed him the red band that she was wearing on her hand. I told him that she needs immediate attention. I also explained him that we are asking for help from evening 5PM. However, the Doctor continued with the same statement and started shouting infronty of my mother who is critical patient. Most of all, he made us feel subdued as if my mother is not important and that she doesn't need any attention. This behaviour was unacceptable !When I asked him that there is only 1 Doctor that is attending the patients both at emergency and in wards he said yes. To this I asked him that are you trying to say that the hospital is so understaffed that a senior citizen patient who is crying for help cant be attended? To this he got baffled and replied in a very derogatory way and also raised his voice. He said that "there are other patient as well and not just your patient". His tone was very high and he was shouting at the top of his voice. This person didn't have the basic courtesy to understand the fact that he is shouting infront of a patient who is in severe delibrium since last night. I told him not to shout and told him that whartever he was saying is absolutely "[censored]" and that I am not going to buy this non sense. To this Dr Aviral Sethi lost his temper and started shouting more aggressively. The biggest shock for me and my entire family( my mother who is a patient, my wife and myself) was that he used 2 sland words to me "###" and "Bloody". I was appalled and completely startled to hear this from a Doctor of such a prestigious hospital. In the meanwhile, Dr. Sudhanshu came to do change the bandage. Now this guy started complaining to the Dr Sudhanshu that I have misbehaved with him. I explained to the Doctor that my point of view and explicitly mentioned it to him about his miebehaviour. The Dr. Sudhanshu asked Dr Aviral Sethi to leave the cabin immediately. During this entire episode my father came back. I narrated the entire incident to my father and told him that Aviral Sethi has used abusive words against me. After this when my father questioned why did Aviral Sethi abused me infront of everyone, Aviral Sethi blatantly lied and said that your son has used the word "bloody" against me. I immediately told my father, Dr. Sudhanshu and everyone that I have not used any such word and that he was the one who has used 2 words "###" and "bloody" against me. I also said that I have used the word "bull [censored]" which basically means "non sense". I also replied that I have used this word as I am not satisfied with the arguement and justification that he has given about trauma cases and lack of Doctors in emergency ward.
Some very important and pertinent questions that I would want to ask the leadership and top management from this entire episode and for which I would need answers from the leadership:
1. Do your Doctors seriously know how to behave in front of a patient who is critical/high risk and do they have the basic courtesy to listen to the request of an attendant who has been crying for help for more than past 3 hours?
2. Are you actually understaffed with respect to your Doctors who are attending the patients in wards vis-a-vis trauma cases of emergency?
3. Are your Doctors well trained and do they know how to prioritise the patient basis the risk. My mother was a critical patient. She was wearing red band on her hand. Aviral Sethi should have the common courtesy to hear to what the attendant is saying. All I had requested to him was if he could call the Dr. Sudhanshu and ask him to attend the patient since we wore waiting for past 3 hours.
4. Aviral Sethi is ill mannered and short tempered is very apparent from this entire episode. But what's more shocking is that Aviral Sethi has no morality and ethics. This person first shouts on me infronty of my mother who is a critical patient and then blatantly lied infront of my father that I used word "bloody" while it was Aviral Sethi who used both the words "###" and "bloody" against me infront of my mother, wife and nurse. I had used the word "bull [censored]" for which t I take complete responsibility.The reason for using this word was because he was completely giving absurd arguement of the Doctor is attending trauma patient while I have been crying for help for the past 3 hrs. I didn't find this arguement logical as for the past 3 hours no Doctor had attended my mother.
5. My mother is under tremendous stress since last night after this incident. She couldn't believe that a "Doctor" from "Medanta" could use such slang words. Who will take the responsibility if something critical happened to my mother due to the stress from this entoire episode? Aviral Sethi or the hospital administration or both?
I have not used salutation of "Doctor" for Aviral Sethi in this entire narration as I don't find him fit for being a Doctor and he doesn't deserve to be called so. Also, this is not the first time that I have been harassed. Usually, I don't report such incidence, but I think its high time to report this incident so that the leadership including the chairperson Dr. Naresh Trehan can acknowledge the level of mismanagement and misbehaviour that the patients have to undergo and the stress caused due to such incidents.Medanta comes under the list of top hospitals in India and charges a fortune for any treatment. The reason why I have come to Medanta is so that my mother can get the best treatment without any stress or hassle. However, after this entire episode I genuinely feel that Medanta has not just let me down but has put my mother under severe stress. She couldn't sleep again the entire night because of this and she is yet under complete stress.
I want immediately to take stern action against Aviral Sethi and a written apology from his side to me and my mother for putting us under so much stress. Also, its high time that the hospital administration should actually look into such matters on priority and train Doctors properly so that they can behave like a Doctor. Only earning a Doctor's degree doesn't help.Also, I have no other grievance against anyone else. Dr. Ateek Vasudev and entire nursing staff have been very cordial and respectful during my mothers entire course of treatment. I personally want to thank enough Dr. Vasudev and nursing staffs who have attended to my mother.Pls take this mail seriously and I would seiously expect written apology from Aviral Sethi for this entire episode. I have tried to keep the entire narration as descriptive as possible and given due to time to type this mail. Also, pls note that I have spoken to Mr. Jatin Sharma, Supervisor from Complaints department and have narrated the entire episode to him. He has assured me that he will immediately ask the leadership to look into my case and that they will call me regarding the entire incident.
I am explicity mentioning that I want stern action to be taken against Aviral Sethi and I would need written apology addressed to me and my mother from Aviral Sethi.
