I took my father to narayana hridayalaya hospital, guwahati for cabg on 12th april

Unfortunately, i was proven wrong on the date of admission (I. E 12th of april, 2017) itself

I had received a call from icu 3rd floor on 12th april, 2017 at around 10pm that the associate cardiologist on duty that night in icu 3rd floor wants to talk to me.. I rushed in climbing the steers to the 3rd floor (As using lifts has been prohibited by your administration over there for patients attendants) along with my friend and my 56 year old cardiac patient mother.. I walked in to the room adjacent to 1st icu on that floor and that associate cardiologist on duty on the 12th april 2017 night, kept me waiting for almost 30 minutes on the excuse that he is busy and has no time to talk... I waited patiently as i wanted to avoid conflict since my father is admitted there.. If he was busy then why did he called me to meet him... To my utter dismay that doctor after keeping me waiting for long, came in and said "your father won't survive tonight".. That shocked me because my father was talking normally, without any breathing support mechnism, and moreover he was referred for cabg by dr. Neel bordoloi of apollo hospital, guwahati stating clearly that the patient is currently stable and cabg to be done urgently.. I said that to the associate cardiologist on duty.. He replied me that he doesn't care about what dr. Neel says... Dr. Neel is an experienced cardiologist of repute and an aims pass out... Then i countered him saying that the patient came in a car, right now he is talking, eating, breathing normally, etc, so can't he take precautionary measures to prevent cardiac arrest since it is a cardiac super specialty hospital.. If this hospital can't, then i will think of alternative and i told him that i am dialling dr. Bisnu deka to talk to him regarding the matter... He was then bit restrained in talking negative.. My mother heard everything as she was there outside the icu door... She entered the room where that notorious doctor was sitting and she entered with folded hands to enquire about what he just told... He straight way in a rough tone said "get out!! I don't have the time to talk. Let your husband die" she came crying out of the room.. I tolerated everything just because my father was admitted.. My facts can be cross verified by cctv footages of that night.. I don't know if they were working because most of the things don't work in narayana guwahati hospital, even doctors don't!!.. Nothing happened to my father that night and next morning my father's colleagues from income tax department rushed in to talk to that doctor but he was off duty.. My father is a retd income tax officer so the case was a cghs case..

Ignoring urgency of the case, the doctors were busy with their bihu holidays and our harassment continued.. The operation was conducted on 17th april.. Anesthesia doctor dr. Hussain was not available during that period and hence operation was delayed risking a patient's life.. The entire episode of doctors on leave due to bihu was hidden from us... Moreover, the operation was conducted without obtaining the infection report, ignoring the fact that the patient had febrile episodes on thursday and operation was conducted on monday... However, thanks to the competence of dr bishnu deka the operation was successful.

Since operation he was having abdominal distension and episodes of hyper tension as well as hypo tension. He was attended by dr. Saikat mallick and dr. Pinak dasgupta.

He was discharged on 26th april (Wednesday). He never seemed normal at home. He was in respiratory distress and his skin was cold.

On monday he was feeling very sick. He was not urinating. I called narayana hospital to talk to dr. Ranjit singh (Who had treated him on 24th april) to seek medical advice.. I was told that being may day, no doctors are available. I asked for telephone number but was told that providing doctors contact number is against hospital's policy..

On 2nd of may, 2017 i had to rush him to the hospital. He was diagnosed with septic shock. He was shifted to icu (Bed 306). I wasn't getting any update regarding his medical condition from hospital, so i called icu in early hours of 3rd of may.. A lady doctor called me and talked to me in theicu and she was like giving up.. Dissatisfied with the doctors, i shifted him in an air ambulance to forties escorts hospital, delhi. It costed me around inr 7 lakhs.. Unfortunately, i couldn't save my father.. I shall regret that for my life sir.. However, pneumonia and abdominal distension that couldn't be treated properly post cabg in narayana hospital, guwahati lead to sepsis and then septic shock.. Further they added that considering the patient's age, he should have been kept under icu observation and should have been subjected to wbc count.

Even in the day of release when the air ambulance was waiting for me at guwahati airport, mr. Goswami (A cashier) demanded rs83000 from me for my father's discharge. I had submitted cghs card at the time of admission (That's sufficient document for a govt. Retd employee for availing cghs benifit) but still he was demanding money on the ground that i didn't submit a health dept referral letter. When my father's friends and colleagues intervened, he was nervous and took a false undertaking forcefully from me citing my fault and i signed because my objective was to shift my father to delhi as air ambulance halts for a limited period of time and already considerable amount of time was lost in arguments and allegations.

My harassment didn't end there. My father was a govt officer and air ambulance bill has the provision of reimbursement by the indian govt if the concerned hospital (In this case narayana hridayalaya hospital, guwahati) provides me a referral letter. The hospital even denied me that. We are a middle class family sir and bearing the burden of 7lakhs is a big thing for us.. Can't the hospital hand me a simple referral letter to save us from further financial hardships.. We are already mourning my father's death and moreover i am made to suffer like a culprit by the hospital. We are a nuclear family. My father is survived by me and my ma. Moreover, my ma too has cardiac problem. Tell me sir why am i made to suffer like hell??.. This is what i am made to suffer in this hospital. They are playing with people's lives and also spoiling your name by some vested interested doctors and staff.

I have many other evidences with me sir and other incidents too but since it is not possible to write everything down here, i tried to provide you with an overview of important things.

Patient's name bimalendu dutta (Id [protected])

Sauvik dutta
