Sikkim Manipal University — Smu not recognized by wes - evaluation organisation | |
Dear Stakeholder,
Sikkim Manipal University is not recognized by World Education Services (WES).
WES is a non-profit organization that provides research about international education and trends and offers expert credential evaluation services. WES is recognized and trusted by America and Canada Govt. So, we also trust them.
Moreover, WES has now STOPPED taking evaluation request from students who done their Degrees from your Sikkim Manipal Univerity (Regular and Distance mode) and So, WES clearly mentioned about this in their website. Please find the attachment.
I have just recently enrolled in an MBA programme with SMU-DE and I am now so worried as I am planning to move to Canada after that. And if situation remains the same I loose my precious two years which will be come worthless and useless. Also, my hard earned money will become waste because of this.
IT IS OKAY, that you (SMU) have clearly mentioned in your website that you will stamp and sign the transcripts/xerox copy and will Dispatch it directly to WES by charging some money from us, BUT this DO NOT RESOLVE our problem, because WES either will reject the application and will not refund our money OR they will evaluate SMU Degrees as NON-RECOGNIZED which is again worthless and useless to us (student like me). Please find the attachment.
I request you, Please take this with very high priority and please you (SMU) directly discuss with WES and resolve this issue as soon as possible as it is affecting student's career.
Note* Apart from Sikkim Manipal University, WES has recognized all the UGC approved Universities. SMU is UGC-DEC approved but don't know why you guys have disputes with WES.
Looking forward for your positive reply and hope you will take necessary actions ASAP.

I am also in the same situation. SMU does not give a proper answer. Our trust was on Manipal group. Now, feeling like our life and career everything ruined.

Hi, I am too in the same situation. I completed my MBA in SMUDE and now as WES does not recognize this, it is total waste. My two years have been wasted.

My situation is also same, I did MBA from SMU in 2005. Now, WES is not recognizing. I emailed to the SMU regarding this but they did not reply. I don't know how long will SMU keep silent in this matter. It is better to say the thing clearly and solve the current problem.

I did complete my both BSC and MCA from Sikkim Manipal university and now the WES verification says this university is non recognized and they dont accept the Sikkim manipal certificates for credentials verification. I am totally ruined my career.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) put up on its website on October 01 2015, the judgements of the Hon'ble Supreme Court and Hon’ble High Court of Sikkim, validating Degrees of SMU-DE students.
But the problem is UGC not issuing NOTIFICATION and until that happen I don't think WES will change its decision.
The only option left for us is to file a Court appeal in USA/Canada along with Hon'ble Supreme Court judgement.
Or our HRD ministry ask UGC to write to WES on the issue. Or write letter US and Canada High Commission regarding the same. Which is highly unlikely. :/

I would suggest students who are still in india, to call up their principal to get more information based on the latest hearing from court.
If anyone is doing it or already followed up then please post the latest updates here, i will talk to my principal and keep this thread posted.

The University wishes to inform students, their parents / guardians, authorised Learning Centres and others concerned that the Hon'ble High Court has protected the rights of already admitted students as on June 26th 2015 by ruling that their Degrees shall be considered valid.

I contacted SMU Helpdesk today and they have responded saying they have written to WES and no response received from their end. I also got a copy of the email sent to WES. Though this does not solve our problem at least some step has been taken by SMU from their side.
Hi, Guys why don't all o[censored]s send a mail, tweet, letter whatever means possible and raise the issue with HRD Minister Smriti Irani and EA Minister Smt. Shushma Swaraj. They are our elected representatives they should help us.
