Needing part replacement that is almost 20% of a new car’s market price!!

2012 model defective continental fuel injectors. My car was not recalled and defect was allowed to remain resulting in part failure after warranty period.
I have a 2012 vw vento 1.6 highline tdi - purchased in 2012, and regularly serviced by vw dealer in mumbai automark and autobahn.

2 days ago, during a routine office trip, sudden failure of acceleration with heating coil warning light and engine warning light came up. Immediately sent the vehicle to autobahn service center goregaon east. The service advisor at vw diagnosed the issues and informed me of injector failure. He even was able to tell me what are all the features i should look for and all present - engine vibration, will start ok and slowly accelerate in lower gears - once higher gears - will rattle as if the engine is going to fall off etc. Subsequent check identified injector 2 and 4 failure is to be changed at the cost of 42 k along with engine mounts for 3.5k and fuel return pipe for 9.5 k. Apart from this diagnostics indicate that injector 1 and 2 are weak and may need replacement anytime soon. And cost of changing all of this will be around 1 lakh. Vw blames fuel quality but all pumps complaint to prescribed bs norms. Vw engines are also marketed to be compliant to bs norm prescribed. I have always raised complaints of turbo lag, engine knocking, clatter, vibration since the first year of buying this car. However inspite of my regular complaints during warranty period the issue of defective fuel injectors was never informed to me. I was forced to put up with the poor diesel engine performance as it was explained to me that “all diesels have knocking and clatter issues after year 1” and it is nothing to be worried about. Now i’m out of warranty period and my injectors have failed needing part replacement that is almost 20% of a new cars market price.
This is a scandal by vw - india in refusing to acknowledge a manufacturing defect - in europe - same model had same problems - some recalled (A batch of continental injectors) and any that gave trouble was replaced free of cost even when vehicle out of warranty. I seek full refund of the 1 lakh plus free replacement of all four injectors. (Not to mention the service record of my car which will indictate that i have always complained of diesel clatter and knocking issues since the 6th months of the car ownership). The manufacturing defect in the fuel injector was never brought to my notice. I have a history of parts replacement and i’m sure the stress factor etc which will incur further compensation claim in a consumer court. Which car in india demands parts replacement that covers 20% of the new car’s market price in one go? And even after incurring a part replacement of such high costs there is going to be new issues that turn up everyear. The consumer court and arai will lend a compassionate ear i’m sure about vw short changing indian consumers

VW India’s Customer Relationship manager called from Autobahn Goregaon East. +[protected].

They have advised that only customers with a capacity to bear the maintenance expense should buy a VW car. And that the car has been built to VW standards.

A car that was furnished with shoddy quality fuel injectors that go bust once every 4-5 years and cost a lakh to replace is what is called “VW standard”. Only customers who are willing to bear this amount should be buying these cars. Else they may proceed to scrap the car.
