Hi Team,
I am writing to bring to your attention an unfair practice concerning my Amazon Pay Balance account. Recently, I added ₹45, 000 to my account through gift cards, intending to use the amount for a bill payment. However, while attempting the transaction, I received the following error message:
“Amazon Pay Balance is not eligible as you have exceeded the maximum amount limit allowed for your Balance on this transaction. Please continue to pay using other methods.”
I had made similar payments using Amazon Pay Balance last year without any such limitation. On discussing this issue with Amazon support today, I was informed that a new policy restricts bill payments to a maximum of ₹25, 000, and this change was implemented without prior notice to users. Furthermore, I have been told that the amount added via gift cards is non-refundable and can now only be utilized for shopping or bill payments within the platform.
This sudden change in policy, without any prior communication, effectively forces users to divert funds intended for specific payments—such as insurance premiums—towards shopping, which is not acceptable. Such arbitrary restrictions and lack of transparency amount to manipulation and unfair trade practice.
Despite repeated attempts to get a proper resolution, Amazon has refused to refund the amount or allow its intended usage. I request the consumer forum's urgent intervention to direct Amazon to either allow bill payments as per earlier norms or refund the blocked amount so that customers are not unjustly inconvenienced.
Please find attached all relevant details, correspondence, and proof of transactions for your reference.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely Regards,
Suyog Dashpute
