Stay away from Asianet. I regret ever choosing them.
I had seen the complaints about Asianet before, but gave them the benefit of the doubt. After my experience, I don't anymore.
I normally used mobile data, so my broadband usage was low. Then I had to work from home and started actually using the unlimited connectionNetflix, gaming, etc., around 2025 GB in a week.
Within a week, the internet stopped working.
Customer care fixed it remotely. The next day, it stopped again. This kept happening for almost two weeks.
Then I spoke to my neighbor, who also had Asianet. His connection was working perfectly.
A couple of months later, I was mostly outside again, so my usage was low and the connection worked fine. Then I stayed home and started using it heavily again.
Five days later, the internet stopped working again.
My neighbor's connection? Still working.
At that point, I had enough. An unlimited connection that repeatedly becomes unusable when you actually use it doesn't feel unlimited to me. I cancelled.
Except Asianet continued billing me even after I requested cancellation.
Someone eventually called demanding payment. I told them I had already requested disconnection and wasn't paying for charges after that request.
They hung up.
Then they cancelled the connection.
After that, they started calling me every day trying to sell me another connection. I told them I wasn't interested and that my number was on DND. They continued until I started filing complaints about every call.
I thought that was bad enough.
Then came my parents' experience.
They had Asianet cable and normally paid six months in advance. Their connection had been unreliable for weeks. Technicians would come, fix it, and the problem would return.
They finally disconnected the service with more than three months of prepaid balance remaining.
Asianet told us the balance would be refunded after surrendering the set-top box. We did exactly that and emailed customer service with a cancelled cheque.
Two weeks: no response.
Escalated to the nodal officer. No response.
Escalated to the appellate authority. The email was simply forwarded back to customer service.
Customer service eventually claimed they couldn't reach us.
I asked: If all we want is a refund, why do you need to reach us? And if you couldn't reach us by phone, why did you ignore our email for nearly four weeks?
Another two weeks. Still no response.
I'm now escalating the matter to the appropriate consumer authority.
At this point, I don't see Asianet as merely having bad customer service. I've experienced problems with service, cancellation, billing, marketing and refunds.
That's too much to be coincidence or incompetence.
My advice: avoid Asianet if you have another option.
And if you do use them, think twice before paying a large amount upfront.
