The purpose of this communication is to draw your attention to the lack of quality and equity in the CBSE board's conduct of the Term -1 examination.
We must also note that the CBSE board exam is a qualifying exam, not a competitive exam. Essentially, the boards are supposed to determine whether the student is competent and aware of most of the material in the syllabus.
This time, the board failed to meet its responsibilities. The term-1 exam was more of a competitive exam rather than a descriptive one. Likewise, the question papers for Science subjects were more stringent and had questions from deleted portions than the papers given for Commerce subjects. This year's CBSE academic preparation was severely inadequate, with the question paper pattern being provided less than two months before the test, causing a setback for foreign institutions that had begun their academic year in March-April, as well as students living in distant places. The pandemic had affected the economic situation of almost all the families as a result many parents cannot afford coaching centres as the term-1 exam was challenging and lengthy. The evaluation of the answer scripts had numerous discrepancies. Therefore, I request you to consider only 10% marks from the term-1 board exam and the results of the term 1 exam should not be released as it is not possible to measure the overall attainment of a student in the middle of the year. It will also demotivate the student and also affect their internals.
If the board is counting 50% of term 1 scores kindly provide a chance for every student to improve their scores.
