I had applied for a car loan form HDFC, but the same was rejected due to CIBIL report. According to CIBIL I have some credit card amount written off in my account; I do not own a single credit card. I asked CIBIL to give me details of the credit card company so that the issue can be sorted out. They in turn have asked me to get a 9 digit control number from the HDFC that did the check from CIBIL. When I contacted the bank they said they would not be able to provide me the details as it is confidential.

I again contacted CIBIL, however they are not ready to share any details until I get the required control number. I am absolutely fed up and have being going in circle with issue. Can somebody help me? Does the remark on my account mean I will not be able to avail loan for the rest of my life?

await some help

The problem is not CIBIL nor the Bank but the problem is the process followed by them.Ther need to be a dispute cell which need to be set up by CIBIL where in consumer can call and dispute the inaccurate information reported on credit report and further investigation will be carried out by dispute cell with the reporting bank.Same process is followed in U.S and South Africa.Visit RBI website and file a complaint and put ur suggestion to set up a despute cell unlike in other countries...
visit forum.cro4india.org and login your complaint there as well as they are also in Credit Policy and might be able to help you out...the reson that I am refering to this is cause I know someone who got helped through this organisation.
I am being harassed by HSBC Bank on the same grounds. They charged me annual fee inspite of stating that no annual fee will be charged at the time of issuing the credit card. Now they have put me on CIBIL due to non-payment of the annual fees and the financial charges. I was not even intimated before being put on CIBIL.

I hold SBI credit Card, ICICI Bank Credit Card and a housing loan with Kotak Mahindra Bank for three years now and I have an impeccable payment record, without a single default, with these Institutions. But due to dirty games put up by HSBC, I am finding it difficult to secure an education loan.

Unscruplous Banks like HSBC should be taken to task.
Yash, the reason why you and many more consumers are facing such kind of problem is because CIBIL does not authenticate the informatio provided by banks. Secondly if there is an inaccurate info appearing on the report CIBIL does not take the responsibility of the same and guides customer to take up the dispute with the bank. But the actual process followed all over the world is different.
Even Transunion who is the partner with CIBIL in india operations follow a different approach in their own country. The process in U.S is as under:
Consumer to dispute information on his credit report with credit bureau.
If consumer do not recognize information on his credit report, or believe an item may be inaccurate, he may request an investigation on the data.
An investigation is initiated on behalf of customer by credit bureau with bank.
If bank is unable to authenticate that information or does not revert within specific time period credit agency is bound to remove that information from their report.Hence maintaining a high level of accuracy & transperancy in reporting of information

RBI and IBA(Indian Banker'sAssociation) should come up with similar strategy in order to protect consumer rights.
Vidya,

I am facing the same problem. I am not getting the control number from the bank and CIBIL is not giving me any details.

I really dont know what to do

I am facing the same problem. I am not getting the control number from the bank and CIBIL is not giving me any details.
guys launch a complaint with RBI and they will appoint an arbitrator who will conduct an investigation for you. But let me tell you this process is very much time consuming and time frame provided for the resolution by RBi is upto 3months.
Guys its your credit report. The data it contains is your personal data. only the information is maintained by someone else. Hence you have the right to access your credit report.
Kindly file regular complaints with RBI nad IBA by visiting their website.
I had applied for a credit card from SCB and HSBC, but the same was rejected due to CIBIL report. According to CIBIL I am defaulter in some credit card or loan; I do not have any pending dues in my existing credit card also in my loan, My existing credit cards are all in NIL due's. I asked CIBIL to give me details of the credit card company so that the issue can be sorted out. They in turn have asked me to get a 9 digit control number from the respective bank. When I contacted the bank they said they would not be able to provide me the details as it is confidential.

I again contacted CIBIL, however they are not ready to share any details until I get the required control number. I am absolutely fed up and have being going in circle with issue. Does the remark on my account mean I will not be able to avail loan or credit card for the future.

I am very much sure that i am not defaulter on any credits, Also this problem has just started to me after Jan 2008. i checked all my credit statement, but nowhere i found the default problem.

Kindly sort my issues, or let me know how to sort the issues.
I had applied for a Cr. Card From Standard Chartered Bank. (Application Ref No AGE2143UVD Dated[protected].

My application was declined. When I enquire about that, Bank Authorities replied me, ”You are a defaulter. We got your name is in CIBIL Defaulters List.”

But in My knowledge I am not a defaulter till today.
what should i do now ??
I am being harassed by HSBC Bank twice in last 6 months. I was having salary account in HSBC from 2003 to 2006. After leaving my last company it automatically turn to saving account & I was regularly maintain my a/c with 8 to 10, 000 rupees balance every month. Without giving intimation they have deducted 843 rupees from my account, after numerous follow up & personal visit to their 5 star bank they told me that my A/C is no more zero balance A/C so i have to maintain minimum 25, 000 quarterly & they explained me that i can use that money as well. My statement need one entry of more than 25, 000 quarterly, this is what their intelligent executives explain me, so i have deposited 25, 000 & they are not ready to revert back the charges like other banks do. But to my surprise they again deducted 843 rupees in next quarter and now they are explaining me that 25, 000 rupees need to be balance & again they are not ready to revert back & not ready to listen. They said if you don't want to continue then close the A/C. I said is their any way through which I get my 1700 back so they said you have to buy our product, recently they have tied up with Canada base insurance company so I have to buy this product and invest 1 lakh for 3 years and also have to put 25, 000 as FD.

They actually do not want to keep smaller account & they are not offering any service as well. Interest rate of home loan & personal loan of HSBC is also higher than other bank. They don’t give any discount to salary account costumer.

Unscrupulous Banks like HSBC should be banned from India.
This is just a forum where people air thier grievance if people want redressasal from genuine grievances they must approach the Banking Ombudsman set up by the RBI. This can be done either by mail or a letter.credit cards are often a source of income for the issuer. they want defaults & thrive on this. we need be very carefull & document every relationship with these banks. Follow this link & lodge a complaint with the relevent proofs.

Guyz,

I have been facing the same problem for the last one month!!

What I really don't understand is the banks are willing to accept you when it comes to opening a salary account of any other account without checking your credit history!! there have been proofs that ppl have multiple accounts in the name of cartoon characters!!! but when it comes to attending to your needs they would rely upon a credit report which is not even validated!!

Also, countries around the world maintain a credit histroy for only 36 months (or 3 years!!) dude watz the point in running them for 7 years???

this happens only in india man!!!

Thanks for all the info on where to complain and get ur concerns heard!! Let hope this issue would be attended to at the earliest!!

The problem is with all international banks. Just stop talking to them. Stop giving business to them. Stick to indian banks. They are much more better than scb, hsbc, citi .
Pass the message
Btw ... CIBIL does only listen to banks only or customers also? i have cancelled my Axis and Hdfc credit cards in january 2008 and i have the refrence number and the cancellation details but still i receive bills stating that my late payment fees and all stuffs. and cibil doesnt want to know this but jus wants to take actions and support banks.. Only banks can b right ? infact banks r der bcos customers r der... so now in india pple should only loot banks and eat loans and credit cards i think thats the best way... sorry to say but its a fact... neways bye take care all pple :D Enjoy Banking...
I am trying to get personal loan from banks. But it hasw been always rejected due to my name is added to cibil. I am always attending calls from banks regarding payments and I am paying them according to receipt of my salary. Can somebody help me in this matter? I need to get loan as early as possible.
Yeah...It can be Really Frustrating, when a Loan application is rejected on Frivolous grounds. The least the so called Banks can do is, no matter if the loan is sanctioned or rejected, the Bank should communicate the same to the Loan Applicant duly mentioning the CIBIL Control number. Once, the applicant gets hold of Control number, he/she can easily pull out the details from the CIBIL.
have received information from the bank regarding defaulting in credit cards of icici Bank and my name is listed in the Defaulter List of CIBIL.

icici BANK have provided wrong information to the CIBIL. I have paid all the dues of icici Bank

But icici Bank has not send the data to CIBIL. MY credit card has declined because of the wrong information given by the bank to CIBIL.

I seek justice to get my names removed from the defaulter list with an immediate effect. I am ready to give all the proof and settlement letters issued by the concerned credit cards provider.

Please help to remive my name from civil.

Looking forward to a suitable action at the earliest form your end.

Dear Sirs,

I have been a victim of CIBIL and banker highhandedness but decided not to take this lying down. here is what i did to improve my cibil records. the CIBIL is not a public enterprise yet behaves as one. some one needs to bring them down and file a PIL against them

As a background I had a dispute of a transaction with a bank credit card. this continued for 8 years and they finally closed the account since they were unable to answer my letters (they had not delivered the credit card to me and yet charged me for using it). upon closing the account, they malafiedly updated my cibil records to show this as written off overdue amount.

All my loan and new card applications started to be declined and then I realized what had happened. I could not afford these credit issues so I decided to settle with the credit card bank (despite them having closed the account) and under protest so as to clear my name in CIBIL. I asked them for a settlement proposal. they asked me to pay 30k towards the alleged 1.5 lacs (including interest that had accrued).

1. After I settled my dues with the credit card company, I pursed them for two months both on the phone, email and written letters every few days to update my CIBIL records. They finally stopped answering my calls and still did neither zeroize the account nro udpated CIBIL. infact I restarted receving credit card statements again with interest and service charged accruing once again

2. I lodged an FIR agains the bank and the guy who had proposed the settlement stating cheating fraud etc. and not delivering what they promised in their own proposal despite my depositing the cash.

3. I lodged a complaint with RBI

4. I lodged a complaint with RBI ombudsman - www.bankingombudsman.rbi.org.in and followed up repeatedly for about 2 months . finally this settlement made around nov 08 showed strains and BO rbi invited me for a meeting with the bankers in March 2009 after 3-5 months of this issue.

5. the bankers stated in the meeting that typically they mention Written OFF as the cibil status on all settled accounts, the RBI OB almost slammed the banker and said this was wrong and they need to mention that the account has been settled and also remove my name from all defaulter lists such as MCNF . they are also to provide a zeroized statement withen 1 month of the meeting

beware that the peons at the RBI BO are in deep pockets with teh bankers and they will dissuade you from attending the meeting stating that your cibil report is as it should be after settlement "written off". donot accept that and meet the secretary and the cheif of BO and state your issue.

you WILL be avenged as BO might levy penalties as well against the bankers
