[Resolved]  HDFC Bank Standard Life Insurance — Not getting refund of premium for policy cancelled in Free Look period

Please help me in getting the refund of premium, I have tried with HDFC Standard Life to get refund of premium for policy cancelled during Free look period. But they don't respond and If they respond then it is a very standard answer that "they will refund once the investigation is over".

I don't know what they are investigating for such a long time. I only see this as a way to keep customers money with HDFC Standard Life and use it for there own interest.

I have written in all communication with HDFC that I don't have any complaint against any individual so what is it that they are investigating, but there is no response.

I would also request that as the banks do with defaulters same should apply to HDFC, HDFC should pay penalty of 24 % of interest for time beyond 15 days from receiving the cancellation letter . As 15 days is standard time taken to refund the amount.

As you can see from below mails, I received the policy documents on 16-Jul-2009 and submitted Free-lookin cancellation request on 20th Jul-2009, But still I am struggling to get refund of money.

Below mails were exchanged with HDFC INSURANCE SERVICE Dept. regarding reason for delay in refund of insurance premium amount (Rs 3, 00, 000).

As per all discussions and policy document it should not take more than 15 days for refunding the amount for lookin cancellation. But I am now always informed that HDFC is investigating the complaint, I am unable to understand which complaint is under investigation. I have never logged any complaint, this thing I have been telling everyone personally in the branch and over the phones, but no one seems to be bothered about my statements and are just trying to make their own interpretation and say that they will only refund money after their investigation is complete.


I am really worried about my money as it seems that there are no timelines on which employees work in HDFC.

I got your email-ID from internet, I view this is the only authority from where I can expect response and believe HDFC employees will listen to you, If not to the customers.

Please Sir, look into this issue and help me in getting the refund on my money as soon as possible.

If I don't receive any response and refund of my amount I would be forced to register complaint with INSURANCE OMBUDSMAN.

I am not sure what kind of investigation is taking place and why it has taken month and is still under progress. I am concerned about my money which is with HDFC, there must be some time frame for resolving the free-lookin cancellation.

have you received your money. I am also facing similar issues with HDFC.
I have brought a policy on 5 May 2017 and decided to cancel it on 13 May 2017 as per their promise i should have received money in 10 days but it's been 45 days and i haven't received my money back. Moreover HDFC executive are already claiming that they have refunded money, i have sent them statements of the bank to prove that i haven't received any money.

I am very skeptical about this entire events. Have u received your money back and if yes how many days it took for that.

I dont understand why we have to go all this just to get our money back.

This is regarding cancellation of my policy and I am not receiving any response at all from any end. Ms. Subhasree and Mr. Pinaki Nag from HDFC dunlop branch, Kolkata, West Bengal has mis-sold me and my father an insurance policy by fraudulent information about return amount, bonus every single details. They told it is an investment policy, did not even mention it is a life insurance policy. Everything was verbal and I trusted them on their verbal details. I was not at all interested about any life insurance. I wanted to withdraw the complete amount from my account as I wanted to close the account but they told me that 30% of my money will be deducted if I withdraw it, later I got to know there is no such rules for NEFT transaction. This is how they cheat people.They took my hard earned money and now refusing to go for 15 day free lookup cancellation policy. I am currently living in United States and while talking over "simplyChat" three of the representative told me that sending all documents through email will be completely fine as I am staying abroad and time window is short. But they are denying to taking into account any of these conversation. The representative from HDFC Life branch asked me for Original Pan Card, Voter Card, Aadhar Card... Is it a joke? Should I send all these valuable originals over courier ? I already had chat details from where I got to know what details I needed to submit to local branch but my local branch is not accepting any document as long as they receive any email from hdfc service and I am not receiving any email from hdfclife with any solution. I want all my money back and this is fraudulent, how they keep someone else's hard earned money by misselling of their products. I want to do the 15 day free free lookup cancellation and I started this process before 10th of October which is 2 days after receiving my Original documents. I do not understand why I am not receiving any help or response either from email facility of local branch, Is it deliberate just to get over the 15 days time window and tell me afterwards this is not possible as 15 days has already passed. My father is a senior citizen and he is taking care of everything in absence of me. Every single day they are harassing my father and send them to different branches with all inappropriate information. Mr Pinaki asked us write the reason just as Financial Problem as I am studying and I do not have money for premium. Whereas now this financial reason is the minor reason and that fraudulent information for mis-selling was the major reason where I cannot match any details.

Me and my father, we are helpless. Please help us by looking into the matter.

I received my money and they have deducted nominal free look cancellation fee Rs. 198 + GST 500+ (Already taken while money was deducted for insurance policy)

Regarding Hdfc life progrowth plus cancellation. At nearest local branch they told me to get corrected cheque book and when I went back to the branch they rejected my cancellation stating it's beyond the 15 days lockup period. I had clearly mentioned due to fraudulent policy bonus stated by agent and will require a immediate cancellation.

My complaint number is HDFCSL=[protected]. I started the cancellation process on the 3rd day I received the policy document . I had to request for new cheque book ( conversion from junior account to normal) and this issue passed over the 15 days time line.

I want all my money paid, when I had initially visited for cancellation policy why was not the status changed or put to pending when I clearly stated the reason.

Currently I'm studying, will not be able to pay the huge amounts yearly. I called the agent contact details mentioned my policy documents several times and he declined to help. This is unacceptable and fraudulent to keep my hard earned money. We were not interested in paying annually it was informed it's 1 time payment ( mutual funds).

Please let me know the possible process required to retrieve the entire money asap.

Hi, as per the confirmation received from our branch, as you have approached to our branch post completion of the freelook in period, hence, your request for cancellation under freelook period has been denied. Further, incase, you have any acknowledgement copy to proof your visit made by you on 3rd day post receiving your document, kindly share the same with us to investigate further. You may share the same via email to [email protected] from the registered Id to have it considered further.
I am facing a similar issue. I submitted a policy request online and paid a premium of Rs 300, 000 on 18th Nov. Thereafter I submitted a cancelation request on 23rd Nov for application number[protected]. I was informed that the return would be processed within 10 business days. It's been 55 days now and I haven't received the premium amount. I have emailed HDFC multiple times and haven't received an adequate response. Last night I received a generic response that I needed to submit the NEFT form and cancelled cheque to process the refund. The fact is I had already done that when i submitted the cancellation request. Does HDFC life not train it's employees to look at the specifics of the case before responding to emails with a generic/standard response?
I am expecting HDFC life to compensate me for lost opportunity cost since the money is with them and I am losing out on interest/investment income. I am frustrated to the core following up on this and will be forced to lodge a legal complaint if not resolved in 2 days.
