Problem: My HTC Touch phone is picking signals only if a VODAFONE CHENNAI SIM is inserted.

Copy of the Complaint::

This refers to the telecon I had with Mr. Vijay at your Customer Service Hotline (India):[protected] jst now.

Reference No is: 09IND[protected]

I bought this mobile in December 2007 and is just around 1.5 years old.

As mentioned in my previous mails, my HTC Touch (P3452) is not accepting network other than Vodafone Chennai. This problem has started from 05th May 2009 while I was in Trivandrum, Kerala on roaming.

When I came back to my home vodafone network (Chennai), the mobile started working properly and I took this mobile to your service centre, SALORA INTERNATIONAL, Chennai. They said, this could be a problem with software and will be resolved on Upgradation of ROM to Windows 6.1. I was charged Rs. 450/- for the said work.

When I travelled out of Chennai in the same week, it was found that the problem was not rectified. I gave the handset back in Salora asking them to help. By then, the Touch Pad started non functional (within 17 months!!!) and Salora said I have to re-place the touch pad and the same was done at a cost of Rs. 3, 400/- on 29th May 2009 (Job No: SIL/CHE/HTC/3001). Phone memory, card memory all were formatted to ensure the network problem wont come again.

I traveled outside Chennai in the weekend and the mobile was not showing signals beyond the Chennai, vodafones home network. To check, I tried puting a Vodafone, Trivandrum SIM, but it was not working, though signal bar was shows full, but the number if called will say "Subscriber is unavailable"

On coming back, I checked the handset with an AIRTEL, CHENAI SIM Card. Surprisingly, it was not taking network signals in that SIM also.

Problem: My HTC Touch phone is picking signals only if a VODAFONE CHENNAI SIM is inserted

Based on your email asking me to Submit the handset in the service centre and to provide the job sheet no, I went to Salora International again today. They refused to accept the handset saying that the warrnty is expired. I spoke to HTC Customer care and they in-turn spoke to Salora on a conference call and following is the outcome / discussions held:

Salora says HTC does not have Level 4 servicing facility in India and Salora is equipped with only L2 Servicing, where by they will wholely replace the problematic part, like battery, Touch Pad etc.
The problem is new for them and they do not know why it s happening. The say changing the Mother Board (PCB) may solve the problem but that could cost aroud 12, 000/- (The new HTC Touch mobile costs 14000/ in Chennai!!!)
If knowing the problem is ther in PCB, why did they recommend me to invest around 4000/- on changing the touch pad? I could have saved that much money.
I asked Salora, that they can change the IC or the faulty component in the PCB so that cost will be very minimum. They dont have an answer or not willing to support me on this.
Service centra also says, the life of an HTC Touch phone is hardly around 1 year and I would be lucky if it works for more... in my case it is 1.5 years!!!

Now, the issue is, I spend INR 4, 000/- already. Another 12, 000/- for PCB. By then, , they said the battery is weak and it would cost another 2000/-. So do HTC expect a customer to spend 18, 000/- to make an HTC Touch Phone, which has hardly worked for 17 months, and the customer bought it for 19, 000? That makes the handset cost 37, 000!!!

My Conern as an HTC Customer:

This is the first time I am using an HTC Phone and I spend around 19, 000/- one and a half year back.
Such an expensive phone should be made of quality componets and should work trouble free for 2-3 years minimum.
Have been using Nokia all these days and I had never faced such complicated and expensive problems.
In case HTC Touch or such products are fit for working only 12 months (only upto warranty days), why should a customer suffer. If it was to spend some 1000/- to 1500/- on rectification I would have done it. But this is talking about more than the cost of a new handset to rectify this old mobile.
I strongly feel HTC has given me an inferior product and hence this problem has occured.
I also expect the recitification to get completed in minimum time possible (say around 10 days time as this is a communication device)

I request the official of HTC and the Customer Care Team to look in to the above concerns and do the needful for a speedy rectification of the phone without much of a cost to me.

Else, I request you to take the handset back and provide a new handset at a discounted rate.

Await an early revertal from your end so that I can use my handset to communicate.

I bought HTC P3450 1 & half yrs back.Suddenly it has stopped working(Absolutely no fault from my side). They are saying you need to change the PCB & you have to spend Rs.14000/- for that as warranty period is over.So easy to say !!...HTC, I don't think you will be able to sustain in the market with such a poor quality hardwares with high price.I had better buy on Chinese mobile...atleast it will work for 3-4 yrs & won't have to repent for price...
...Anup, Pune(India) based Customer...
I want to know when is HTC Hero launching in India
I have a HTC P-3452 and its touchpad is not working. After reading this column I am afraid to give the mobile to the service centre for repair, and I dont know who is trusty service centre. If service centre is harrassing customer in such way the authority should cancelled their ragistration.pls suggest what should I do to get my moblie repair.
