I am facing similar challenges with the Indian embassy in Houston. From all the comments, it seems like this has been an ongoing issue for many years - I can tell you their attitude hasn't changed in Houston.
I was supposed to get my renewed passport a week ago - I still haven't received it. I tried emailing and also calling them a number of times but it seems impossible to get their attention! Will visiting the embassy help, suggestions on getting the embassy to respond are appreciated.

Amercan citizens born in the usa are not treated any better by the Houston consulate. Houston is the slowest of all Indian consulates in issuing visas. I cancelled my trip because it too them so long to issue a visa. It took Travisa 8 days to get my application to the Consulate, so they aren't much better. I have never encountered such a complex and lengthy procedure to acquire a visa and have traveled all over the world. Makes me wonder if India just doesn't value tourism and the revenue it generates. No problem - there are many other countries that gladly welcome visitors and I shall just change my destination.
What can you do to help improve the consulate and make your voice heard?</p>

(2) - If you are unable to get ahold of someone through the phone (as I was) and nobody responds to your email form inquiries (as they did with mine), and your case has been open for a long time, you can email [protected]@indiacgny.org with a copy to the Consul General [protected]@indiacgny.org and the Deputy Consul General [protected]@indiacgny.org and you are more than likely to get a response. Make sure to put your case number in the email and the length of time you have been waiting for your passport or other service.
(3) - Change doesn't happen by itself. Provide CONSTRUCTIVE feedback on these feedback forms to the Indian government. Try not to name-call or be accusing, people listen more to solutions rather than finger pointing:

(4) - Call 311 and complain about the hazardous conditions of the basement. There is no emergency exit and the embassy makes people block the only public exit with their bags. Also, there are at least a hundred people in the basement at any given time. Although NY Department of Buildings does not have jurisdiction over this place, I believe they still send someone to check it out. Maybe if they get enough NY officials going to check out the situation, the consulate might re-think their public image strategy.

Houston Embassy - people at this office are the WORST. One questions but different answers. They do not know what they are doing there. We went there several times in person to speak to someone about our visa issue and we were given the run around. THEY SUCK! THEY REALLY NEED TO GET RID OF THESE PEOPLE.
So Far it seems that no one except the operator in the Chancelors office works... its amazing - they have soo many people that work there however they had to outsource visas! with that said they dont do even more! God forbid you have to call them... Travisa is a scam too... I wonder how much the Govt was paid off to get this outsource work to them!
To Top things off, ... if you get another citizen ship... they want to charge you... what other ways can these lazy consulate offices make money???/ why not promote travel to the country and not rip people off! they ALL need to be fired!

I can say Consulate general of Toronto has big attitude problem. They are repsentative of india and they show us how bad they are means how bad you can have experience in india. We know British people ruled over india for so long. Does Consulate staff still have slavery gene? Are they trying to take revenge? they know they can not do anything to canadian or american so are they trying to make hard life of indian origin? Are they jealous that they can not be citizen of foreign country? no Idea why they make all these problems to indian origin. well I suggest them to make it KISS (KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID)

Every one shared their frustation and it seems that I am not alone.
Question is : Can we register complaint against these reckless and unprofessional bunch of folks occupying all the Indian Consultants in USA?
I am Equally or more frustated like many other indians who shared their experience of dealing with Indian Consulate in USA. I am still struggling to find where my Son's passport is?

Employees in DC consulate should be FIRED..
No one has decency, they cant even be polite.. phone calls are answered very rude.. Gives u an Indian govt office impression. Heavily disappointed...
The problem is they all distribute new papers with the whole family from
3 am to 7 am, then come to embassy and just sleep there.
They are just [censored]s working there. No one picks up the phone.

Is there any way to contact AAJ TAK OR ANY other media to the PATHETIC INDIAN Embassy story how these people work there. These people are shame to the In credible India.

I would like to add my complaint... Tavisa Washington DC has had my passports (because they asked for my old one with past Visa and in and out stamps for them to see) for over 2 months. They sent me an e-mail saying my 4th Visa request (previous 3 in the past 12 years have been approved) was denied - but no reason given - and asking me to send $21 for them to return my passports. I already sent them a self addressed Pre-paid Priority Mail return envelope - but apparently they "lost it".
Well, they still have my passports and will not answer the phone or my emails.
Unfortunately there is no one to complain to.
Travisa has been a poor excuse of providing professional or timely service... What a rip off!

i have read all the complains and same is the case with indian embassy guy in vladivostok russia, this behaves that he is running the whole office and visas are given from his moms pocket.he doesnt want talk to people doesnt want tell his name, he comes to office after 11 and his lunch time is 2hrs.doesnt know english some stupid can make out from his voice.

I have applied for my daughter's PIO card through Chicago Consulate. They have outsourced their services to Travisa. Now, I filed a order form online a couple of weeks back where there was a requirement that proof of address in USA is accepted as a photo copy.
But now, the Travisa is saying that the rule has been modified and they require original proof (such as utility bills etc). I have already sent all the documents. The travisa is keep on harassing by saying things missing just after another thing they get. Although nthing is missing and everything was sent in the order required as per PIO requirements.
They keep on saying to get them the original docs which was not asked intially.
Also, many things on thier website is not clear as it should be and PIO application itself creates lots of doubts while filling and unnecessary information is asked and not clearly mentioned who should sign in case of minor application

The Washington DC Embassy of India Consular staff, the passport offices, do not answer the phone, do not take voicemails, do not make online appointments, have lost my documents, now are forcing me to reapply what I provided in person (mail is useless), two years after submitting all requested information. These people are rude, short, and act as if they are doing Citizens of India a favor. Pathetic. Newspapers in the United States should investigate on behalf of their Indian readers.

They are a bunch of arrogant, irresponsible and lazy people who do not work and are just sitting there for nothing.If i had it my way i would fire all of them.They have no respect for others, worst customer service i have ever seen in my life and they get u so frustrated that i regret being a indian and the fact that i have no choice but to face them and cant swear at their face.And yes they never pick up their phone. Why isnt anyone taking action against them.I lost a lot of money on my air ticket etc just because their system was down and they could not provide me with a emergency certificate.They have a very bad attitude and i wish all of them bad luck in their lives as those people are good for nothing and thats what i told the customer service guy at his face...may they burn in hell !!

it seems like all people working in every single consulate have the same bad attitude and no one can do anything about it. Shame on india.These people working in consulates have no professional training or education and how they get into these jobs is a matter of money.
