Manhattan Credit Card — Harrasement by Manhattan Credit Card

Story start in the year 2005, when I had gone aboard and had to extend my trip and cause of the same I wasn’t able to pay my credit card bill. When I came back I gave a call at the customer care number of Manhattan Card and requested if the charges could be reversed to which I was given an assurance that the same would be done and I was asked to pay rest of the amount subtracting the late payment, interest & tax component on that amount.

In the next statement the same was again reflecting with add-on charges, I again called up and then I was told no I will have to pay. I was like what the hell, its not done; I contested their stand while nothing moved from both the side and I saw the statement coming at my home for next 2 months.

Later on there was no statement, no communication from banks side, in the meantime I had shifted my job as well however permanent address & telephone number was the same and it exists till date.

In April 2007 I had applied for a car loan and the same was rejected as I was told that by showroom sales guys that system is showing an outstanding of 12.5k. I asked against what, to which he said it doesn’t say that and then I got to know CIBIL’s clearance is required to get loan now.

I wrote emails to all existing & old credit card institutions, and got a reply from Manhattan that there is an outstanding and there fore they had reported the same in CIBIL’s system.

Since then till date I have been after them to get this issue sorted however the reply has been that I will have to pay the entire amount and I should treat my experience/the promise of reversal of charges by their executive in isolation.

After months of email exchanges they gave me a number to contact and talk on this. Initially I was hesitant as Manhattan had promised me stuff earlier as well and had backed out, I wanted to talk thru email only which they never wanted to do, which was understandable how will they say yes that it’s a mistake from their side in written.

Tried their number and no one took the call, wrote them back and finally got a call from their side; got a call from your mumbai office from number [protected], had a discussion about my credit card issue with stanchart.

In the entire discussion, i was told about the efforts made by manhattan/stanchart guys to get in touch with me and to my understanding none of the effort was made in the right direction.

As said my contact email's were getting delivered at the email id provided and the email id was an official email id, while i had left the company which you even got to know from various sources, still you continued to send email on that and strange to know after email account is closed how come mails were getting delivered.

The mobile number shared with stanchart was being replied by some Mr.Dinesh and he shared with you that i have left mumbai while i was there in Mumbai and without any verification of the information Stanchart believed to the voice; Fact is I have shifted from Mumbai in Jan 08 to Delhi.

Permanent Address was provided and no one contact thru a letter on that address. Land line number shared of permanent address is there with us since 1991, and i am being told that someone on that number said its a wrong number dialed. Why cannot your caller or your dialler, dial a wrong number? why in every case customer is wrong?

Finally few months back, I am the one who contacted StanChart asking to know if there is any outstanding as I was unaware about the same and had suffered huge pressure & mental trauma to get a loan which the Banks telling the reason for denial.

Over the call, I am being given 2 options either pay full and get the name in CIBIL cleared or settle the account by paying 30% less and even then clearance from CIBIL will not be given. Dont you guys think this is harassment? If Bank is on fault even then customer will pay for it, and later customer will be harassed by saying we have given your name to RBI, as told to me over the phone today.

I would want to know what kind of checks RBI has put in to ensure that Banks pay for Banks mistake not the customer.

Miserable service from Manhattan/StanChart Bank
