[Resolved]  Standard Chartered Bank — Unlawful and unjustified of Credit Card dues

I have a Master Card bearing no. [protected] , which has been issued by the Standard Chartered Bank,India.

Till about 18 months ago, I was paying the amount of dues + interest as was levied by the said Bank. However, the Bank suddenly, without any information stopped the Statement of Credit Card that was being delivered to me . On inquiry from the Bank of the same , I was told that the Card has been blocked due to reasons the bank could not tell nor issue any written document to that effect.

After a few days , supposedly, an agent of the Standard Chartered Bank started calling me up from mobile numbers [protected] & [protected] and told me in a highly abusive and threating manner that unless the I pay the dues of 210,000/- ?????? immediately, he shall make sure that I get physically harmed and my family suffers the same . I asked the person, who identified himslf as Mr.Navin Soni -A Branch Manager ( Collections ) at Standard Chartered Bank, Sector 24/25 , Building No.7A, Cyber City ,Gurgaon, what is the justification of levying such an amount and how did the Bank calculate such an amount when the dues as and when asked for were paid and further, the limit of the card was Rs.1,00,000/- only , how did the Bank quote such a figure ? He gave me no answer to this question but replied " If you do not pay the amount , I will see that you suffer beyond your imagination".

I again asked him if he could provide me anything in writing for whatever he is saying, for which again he did not reply. Instead he told me that I can complain to anyone and nothing will ever happen to him as the TOP management of the Standard Chartered Bank has authorised him to use any means, lawful or unlawful , to recover money from the customer, irrespective whether the amount is justified or not and NO written statement will be given to me ant any cost.

I called the Standard Chartered Bank helpline number[protected] in Delhi, to which I was connected to a lady who identified herself as Ms.Samira, who after politely listening to my tale of harassment, told me that she would be unable to do anything and dis-connected the call.

These calls were made only from mobile phones and no call was ever made from any landline so there was no way anyone can say whether or not Mr.Soni was speaking from Gurgaon.

Standard Chartered had given a e-mail address " headservice.[protected]@in.standardchartered.com" to which I wrote about the nature of the threat and the abusive manner in which an alleged employee of the Bank was conducting himself, however, the mail bounced back which shows that the Bank is making a fool of the Customer by providing fictitious email addresses to which no complant of any customer will ever reach.

Now , on Setember 26th , 2009, I got numerous calls again from Mr.Navin Soni telling me that if I do not pay the amount he will cause grave harm to me and my family and he does not bother about any bloody law or anyone and he shall ensure that Iam taught a lesson.

Now Iam not sure whom to get in touch for resolution of my case.

I would request you to kindly advise me on what action to take so that such goons do not hram my Family or me by adopting unlawful means and harassing the SCB customer.

Kshitij Darbari.
