[Resolved]  Sunrise Hospital Kakkanad — Very bad Service at sunrise hospital

Before start of this review, let me give a brief intro to this facility. This is a posh looking hospital in the brand new downtown Cochin; Kakkanad.

I had visited this hospital twice;

First time for taking a TT injection for myself; I had to wait for around 1 hour for this at their casualty. Of-course at a busy hospital the casualty might be busy; but at the time I went there, the casualty had only me, a doctor and 2/3 nurses. After the 1 hour wait at Casualty, half an hour at pharmacy. They were much unorganized; but then I was not much irritated (since I live in a developing country at times wait, and other discomforts are all part of the game)

For my next medical emergency, I choose another hospital in Cochin; “Ernakulam Medical Center”; it was crowded 10 times to Sunrise, but things were much/much smooth there; time heals your bad experiences and again one more time, I wanted to test Sunrise hospital. This time was for a vaccination for my 2 year old kid; I heard of a pediatrician who was a medical practitioner in US and had returned, to add to it her husband was associated with my wife’s company.

To meet the doctor had to wait almost 1 hour, but no fuss; there were 2 patients before us; and she was spending enough time with every patient. We met her but to our surprise, those optional vaccinations for 2 year old was not available at this hospital (the hepatitis A1 and Typhoid vaccines) finally she asked about Chicken pox vaccination, and since we didn’t take it for our baby, (because she was under-weight), she said we would go for that. Ok fine and she checked with their pharmacy for the availability of these vaccines; but now the story got a twist, they have Hepatitis A1 vaccine, and would take the same along with Chicken pox); we thanked the doctor and went to Laboratory (the hospital was giving vaccinations at their lab).
There had to wait for another 1 hour, and after this wait they gave my daughter the hepatitis A1 Vaccination.

And asked to pay the bill which was only for hepatitis A1 vaccination (Rs.945/- and for accepting cards they were charging service charge, so for the bill of 945/- my card was swiped for Rs.960/- ) even though the doctor had prescribed chicken pox vaccination. When I took it to their notice, they said ok wait. This wait continued for another hour, but still no reply; when I raised my voice they said, it was some trouble with their EDP system, finally I told them to take the amount for the vaccination and return my card(which the female at counter was holding and roaming around). For this another 15 minutes wait; and when I asked for the medicine prescription (for me to get it reimbursed from my company); they said the doctor need to give it and send a nurse to the doctor again wait time of 20 minutes) To my surprise what I got from the doctor was a letter addressing “To whom so ever it may concern” starting the stories for non availability of medicines at the hospital.

When all these were happening the lab had at least 10/12 of their staff were walking up and down, only one nurse out of these was administrating the vaccines. And while returning I could read a notice at the pharmacy counter. “If you are in a hurry for medicines, please get them from outside”

Don’t go to this hospital for any emergency. Since they have the most incapable staff for your service; especially for emergencies the wait time might cost your life!!!

If you want to kill your time; (in the order of a day) please feel free to visit this hospital and tell them you got to test your blood sugar and BP!!!

After watching some stories about bad treatment at Sunrise hospital in India Vision channel couple of days back, I thought sharing some common complaints around so that people can know about it and Hospital people if they want can correct. Complaining to hospital management directly not going to help, as many had similar experiences, they are busy with their only job of making money, not doing the service which expected from a hospital.
A very good hospital in Kakkanad area was a dream for people around, But Sunrise Hospital is NOT serving the purpose even though people expected a lot. You can get this feedback from majority around the hospital.
The charges are very high compared to other hospital around, but nursing as well as administrative service is really bad. The worst thing is the pharmacy.
Majority of the consultant doctors there are really good. But due to the administrative issues people are not getting good service there.
It is your responsibility to check the prescription by the doctor and actual medicines given by the pharmacy. There are more chances of mistakes; I have clearly seen people creating issues there in the pharmacy for this. Sometimes pharmacy staff gives medicines prescribed by the doctor couple of days or months back, instead of giving medicines of current prescription date, this is because their hospital record prescription file organising pattern is different.
You can expect waiting time of 10 minutes to one hour at pharmacy even with couple of patients waiting there. Same at reception also. PR staffs are not pleasant, especially if you raised any complaints earlier.
If you happen to be admitted there for couple of days you can feel how dissatisfied some of the staff there are. They are low paid, even though we are charged much more compared to others around. This is why the staffs there are changing every time. Sometimes they show their frustration to you.
The charges for Xray 150 rupees while the cost is 75-100 rupees in other hospitals. The reason they say is the X –Ray is digitised, They won’t give the XRay film to you, but later after couple of months if the doctor want to review it again, they won’t be having it, they will say it is in backup, tedious procedure to recover. So you may have to take is again. BTW Their staff itself asked me to raise complaints against the higher cost of X-ray.
They won’t give the copies of the scanning reports etc, sometimes they won’t file it properly.
For Gynaecology department if any of your relative happen to admit there for Uterus related surgery where cost mentioned less and in couple of thousands, And if admitted patient is above 45-50 surely you can expect doctor calling you during surgery and saying that the Uterus to be removed. At that critical stage you will agree for it, But you can expect the trap when you get the bill of more than 50000/- . If the removal was required they could have told this earlier itself after seeing the scanning report!!
Till we fix up appointment the famous doctor(mentioned in one of above post) will be very friendly, but after surgery you won’t see the doctor. He won’t visit patients after surgery, but hospital bill will have his room visit charges too. If you ask the account s department, they will say it was a mistake from nurse.
For a surgery of more than 50000/- you can even have to pay 500/- for DVD video of surgery. It will be in your bill even if you are not asking for it.
Sometimes you can expect bill even much more than 50000 for actual amount of less than 20000, but if you ask for detailed bill they may be reluctant first, but later they may come with detailed bill of less than 20000/- and will blame for mistake by their computer. But this happened to many people.
These are real experiences of people with whom I have contacts, and some are from my experiences also. In every industry and society ETHICS has to be kept important.

IF THE HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT IS NOT CHANGING THEIR ATTITUDE PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOSPITAL.
i am planning to visit this hospital. let you know my experience after my visit
i had a surgery in this hospital, and i went der with my previous reports.dey just checked it and asked me to do he surgery dat day itself.it was not a serious problem, a small fibroid in utereus.dey did so many tets(like urine test without taking urine).and i paid around 55000 rs., but didnt get any reports other than discharge summary.actually i am residing outside kerala, so i need all these to show to my doctor.but didnt get anything.only i paid for all those.and still my problem is der even after the surgery.that means i should do it again in some other hospital(endoscopic ovarian drilling)
My husband, myself and our kid have been to Sunrise Hospital on and off for the past two years for treatment. The doctors are capable and so are the nurses. Yes, their pharmacy can improve in terms of quick service. But for an organisation of that scale, it is only a minor hitch. Anyways you can always opt to buy the medicines outside.

I have a different opinion about sunrise hospital especially on the paediatric department. My son was born on 8th month with lot of health issues including renal problems. My son is doing well now because of the paediatrian Dr. K M Anand in the sunrise hospital. He analyse my son and does the right treatment. It is the first time i am seeing such a co-operative doctor in my life. During his hectic period also, he finds time to rectify our sons issuses.I am really happy with Dr. K M Anand for giving a full support and very good service to my son who is under his treatment.
CHEATED BY SUNRISE HOSPITAL.

I underwent a surgery at sunrise hospital. Expenses were near 1 lakh(But we were ready to give, only wanted cure for the sickness).
After charging money of the slaughter (they call laparoscopic surgery), they were in a hurry to discharge me, although I was complaining of pain and fever. Two more times after my sugery I went to meet the surgeon telling my pain and fever.. He laughed and send me back. Finally I had so severe pain with fever that I had to go to another hospital and done two oerations.. I have lost so much extra money in terms of additional treatment, loss of working days...But I am lucky that I am alive today...
Sunrise hospital is justified in doing "health business" but when a patient whom they had done surgery, repeatedly reported problems in the immediate post operative period, they should checked, at least...After geeting the cutting charges in their pockets, they were not ready to listen to me...How cruel...bunch of cheaters...Beware patients of this "HIFEES Slaughter house"
agree with 10000 times too bad service... i spend 4 hours there one test for my daughter
I do agree that we have to wait for long time in front of pharmacy and the worst thing is that if we have to meet doctors at 6th floor, even after half an hour of patient reaching the floor our file will not reach there, and nobody is responsible for all this.Worst of all is that the doctor inside the room will be sitting without a single patient and still we can not meet them since the file has not reached.
I had visited Surise Hospital, kakkanad for the surgery of my friend. feel happy to get a prompt service at that time and we were happy in their service

reliance hyper kochi — very bad service

I was one of the regular customer of reliance hyper and where ever i go i am purchasing every things from ur shop. Today i visit the shop for montly purchase and see a offer for television of 3999 and i came back at evening for purchase it and every staff with duty manager is watching cricket match and when i ask for one pcs one of the staff check the item and packed the product and when i reached at the billing counter i am surprised because the price is higher than displayed price . Why enquired about it they said that price is updating from HO. They can't do anything only thing they can do is change the display price .then why they had not change the price till they have time to watch a cricket match. While i wrote the complaint in register. One of the staff(i think it duty manager)behave very bad and very painfull. I will never visit again . Goodbye. [protected]
I had a very good treatment in this hospital...I just had a laproscopy done on 26 jan 2011...Since I belong to a different region, I wasn't very comfortable with the thought of travelin for 10 hrs for the surgery...But the doctors, nurses includin the receptionist have been very kind, friendly n warm which made me really comfortable...On my request as i had to travel, my surgery was done on an earlier date inspite of the doctor's hectic schedule...I was admitted to the hospital on 26th morning n my surgery was over by afternoon...Iam very very thankful to all of them
My friend every institution, every company and every job is having his own good and bad.It is the way you view it.Even a new born child knows that sunrise hospital is not a charitable institution but just a business institution and they cut the neck of even a poor patient with sword. In such a case the hospital authority doesnt concentrate on patients but the need only money to establish there institutions all over the world. So it is better that you dont think of money that u have spend.Next is ill treatment of staff. You should understand 1 think a person will love a profession only if he or she gets the right return of there job.A staff nurse is born after spending more than 6lak rupees 4 there profession. They may have taken loans or borrowed from sm1 etc and the amt that these poor people receive is even less than that we give our housemaid {9000/month}every month.Just around 6000 and after all cut around 4000.Inthis fast moving world and increased cost value this is not at all satisfactory 4 them who are working 4 10hours day and 15hours night to meet there own needs. This creates frustration in there mind and it is this hospital authorities who r making them mentally so hard.So friend u cant blame the staff also 4 not attending u.
I do agree with the compliants and I do also agree with good feedback. Any experience at any outlet be it medical or non medical depends on many factors both predictable and non-predictable. The most important of this is your fate for the day. If you are destined to undergo hardship a particular day no matter where ever you go it will happen. Always believe that the best only would happen and if any worse happens try to live by what patience you have conceived as you age. I personally believe that no ones fate lies at anyone's comments but by God's will. Keep up the spirit of life, God Bless.
Lets wait for more.. After all, with all the initial starting troubles, they are in the process of building an empire. Sunrise Hospital do have their concerns in other parts of India as well as in Dubai. Facilities are at par with many other hospitals in Kochi.
"We are extremely satisfied with the hospital management and staff. All have been very polite and helpful in making us feel at home. Dr Hafeez has made such a complicated laparoscopic surgery so simple. My recovery is quick. I am grateful to him for providing me with such good treatment. The hospital ambience is very good and well equipped with modern treatments and machinery. I would definitely recommend this hospital to all my family and friends"
Every patient would have different experience, one way or the other. I was once admitted at the hospital at Kakkanad. While going through the registration formalities, I was pained to see a person claiming that he should be attended to, first - I did take a back seat. Believe me the Front Office desk was too polite in handling the patient (who was presumably drunk at that point of time). I was treated by an Ortho (what a lovely person he is..!!) & was well taken care of. I did not want to inform my family who are away at Chennai, lest they get unduly worried. On noticing that I had no attendant (Oh forgot to mention... my right foot was plastered..!!) I was given special attention. The food that was served was indeed good. I do visit the canteen even now to relish the food. I keep referring a few of my colleagues to the hospital & many of them have had similar experience. I do not speak the local language, but then it is not a handicap at all at this hospital. The pharmacy dispenses medicines at MRP (there are a very few hospitals in the country which do that.) The hospital has grown in stature. One of my colleagues was seriously injured. We got him admitted at Sunrise. Apart from the special care given to him, Sunrise arranged for a special nurse to accompany him by flight to Orissa via BLR. What more does one want...?? Yes, special care indeed costs. When one does not want to spend on his/her well-being it would be best to seek treatment at Govt. Hospitals rather than private institutions. One should not travel by second class sleeper & expect an air-hostess to attend to the needs..!! God bless Sunrise.. Let their tribe multiply..

Dear Ms. Parveen Hafeez,
Been planning to write to you since a couple of days now, to update you about the recovery progress:

It’s all gone beautifully and I have to confess that, I had my periods after surgery…… It was amazing, there was NO PAIN.

Was like a dream come true, because I can’t
remember the last time I was even unable to smile, let alone walk during
these times. The wounds have healed very nicely, the
healing was a breeze.

Please do thank Dr. Hafeez Rahman from the
bottom of my heart… He really kind of saved me…. It feels so so nice not
to be in pain any more and thank you too for all the
help and support….
I also experienced the same pain from this hospital. I would very strongly suggest NOT to choose this hospital. My father had a heart attack and was taken to this hospital. Only minor medication was administered. I could feel their lack of confidence, so i wanted to take my dad to some other speciality hospital. Upon requesting them they arranged an ambulance telling 10 minutes or would reach. It had taken another 1 hour which were the counting minutes of his life. After all hardly for 2 hours without any remarkable medication they charged Rs 7500 from me! On addition, my friend's brother in law had a fever he was changed rs 11000 for 2 days. Another friend had minor 2 wheeler injury coated him rs 31000 again another had similar kind of injury costed him rs 28000. So i would strongly suggest not to attempt this hospital.
About those who had good times. Well, the hospital had a good reputation past. But now it is in big question.
“Our overall experience at the Sunrise hospital was very good. Admission
formalities were done very quickly and were organized. The room was
quite spacious and very clean. The nurses were very kind and helpful at
all times and quickly responded to our requests. As for Dr. Hafeez, we
have nothing but high praise for him from the initial consultation. D.
Hafeez was very professional at all times. Because of his extensive

experience and excellent reputation, we were always assured that we were
in good hands and we had nothing to fear regarding the surgical
procedure. Dr. Hafeez was very honest and straightforward and our
condition and although he was very busy, he still had the time and
patience to answer all our queries. Definitely a world class doctor! I
would recommend this hospital because of its cleanliness and modern
equipment but most especially because of the excellent service and
utmost professionalism of its entire staff.”
