[Resolved]  Tata Sky — DTH service purposely being interrupted by service provider in the interest of AMC / chargeable service

I have a tata sky connection from last 4 years. Since early 2009 a very pecuilar problem started coming up where every day in afternoons (between 1 - - 3 pm) the service will suddenly go out saying that the digicom is not receiving signal. The service sometimes would resume at later evenings or sometimes not until we spoke to customer care. Once CC was approached they would first try to advice self help to sort the matter but when is was not rectified (as in most cases) they would raise a complain and attend it with their technicians to come and do some small things and set it right charging us Rs. 350 for that and a waranty period of 3 months. The matter continued like this several times and then they started coming up with advicing us to take an annual AMC for some payment amount which would cover our problem. We did not go for that and at one time they replaced out digibox with charges paid to solve the matter.
The matter seems to revive again and again and it is specially starts before any mega event in TV like the IPL, film fare awards, some good movie etc.

I feel these are money making tactics of TataSky clearly as they are monitoring the problem everytime... b'cos otherwise why full morning we could see all the programs and suddenly before the IPL starts in afternoon today the digibox does not get a signal. This happened also y'day in the evening before the IPL opening ceremony. The more surprise was that I recharged Rs. 1550 for a south saver pack for half year just y'day and this has happened. On contact with the engineer he says to raise the complaint in customer care and get it rectified . When i told him the problem we face he says that we need to again change the digibox which was only done on September 2009 and he says the warranty period is over.

This is sure pressure for tatasky trying to make money from its customers by distrubing services and also putting pressure for either AMC contracts or change of equipement on chargable basis and chargable service.

I do not expect such cheating behaviour from a reputed company like TATA... this is shameful and also request you to take this matter forward for me to sort out the problem for us to get a better service for the payment I make regularly.

We are totally fed up and want to change our service to other DTH providers but that would again cost us a lot.

Please help us to get a better and un interrupted service for our DTH from TataSky.

There was currently a Sun Outage problem which was only for 5min and not for long duration. Since you have been persistently facing this problem you should have reverted to the customer care at an early stage to diagnose the non reception of signal. The customer care will try their best to resolve the matter on call itself as technicians are hired they have to be paid hence to avoid cost from the customer as well as Co. matters that can be resolved on call save time and cost and are mostly preferred. There are certain matters that require advance technical help for which tech support is required and the job is only for technicians. Also of the Rs 350/- amount that you pay 3 months warranty is given for assurance of the matter resolved. Annual AMC was suggested as a suitable remedy since you have faced recurring problem and bearing the cost every now and then could be avoided by AMC. This is not a general problem and since you have been facing it for a long time there could be possible hardware problem. South Saver Pack semi annual charges are Rs 1, 300. Problem once rectified should not occur again in the same area hence such warranties are offered on technical visit. The process always flows in order that the customer contacts cc and then technician is alloted after which the customer can take the number of the technician who is to visit his place. The charge on the digicomp is since you are out of warranty otherwise it would not be charged and of AMC secures further maintenance cost when you are out of warranty so these are ways and means of protecting consumer interest reducing recurring cost occurring from unforseen contigencies.
