Hello, I had ordered a winshield (the small piece of plexiglass over headlight) also known as a Visor from EBAY.COM
The item was shipped on 23-7-22 from Thailand and Landed in Bangalore 3 days later and was to be delivered to me in Hyderabad by 28-7-22. But it did not reach me. The tracking showed 'Clearence Event' at customs in Bangalore. On 5-8-22 I get a text message on phone that I have to customs duty.
Total Value of the item : 84.61 GBP (around 8, 088 INR) With free shipping.
The seller instead mistakenly put the currency as usd instead of GBP. They asked me for a clarification letter and Saller Invoice and bill from the website, I have given it to them.
In the ECCS Courier bill of entry by customs, the invoice value mentioned is 8, 257 INR But the assessed price by customs i at 10, 002 INR.
It was also mentioned that the freight charges was 1657 INR where as It was freely sent to me by the seller as shipping is free.
And finally the Assessed customs Duty is 4, 209 INR and DHL says that I have to pay them a total of 5, 613.20 INR.
I mean how can a mere piece of plexiglass even thought comes under auto spare parts, attract a customs duty of 3/4 the amount and how can the customs officials asses an inflated value despite me giving all the required bills and invoices for the correct value?
DHL AWB: [protected]
Billed price: 88.61 GBP (Approx 8, 000 to 8, 260 INR)
Value assessed by Indian Customs: 10, 002 INR
Duty to be paid according to customs: 4, 209 INR
Duty to be paid according to DHL: 5, 613.20 INR
This is as absurd and ridiculous as it gets.
