This is with regards to a gift that I have received from a friend from Singapore .
I was not expecting the gift and had no idea of the same. Started receiving messages from DHL to complete KYC. SInce I was not aware of the background, thought this to be one of the marketing gimmicks. After checking around, realized that one friend from S'pore had sent the gift and thereby submitted the KYC docs online. Whatever docs submitted were not accepted by DHL and this was delayed - this is in spite of the fact that had given .
After 10 days they have cleared the consignment and to delivery the same they are charging me ~INR 1500, of which customs duty is only ~INR 230 and the balance are all charges by DHL in the form of Bonded storage and Payment deferment risk and GST on the same.
This is clearly extortion of money from the consumer.
the clear breakup of hte invoice is as under:
Custom duty: INR 55
Other levy / charges (+ surcharge): 176.44
Payment deferment risk: INR 550
Bonded storage: INR 500
GST on payment deferment risk and bonded storage: 189
Total: INR 1, 470
the customer service guy - Tyson - that i spoke to was also not at all courteous. I repeatedly told him that I am ready to pay the customs duty but why are the other charges being charged to me. He kept explaining that customs duty ahve to be paid. I told him that customs duty is not a problem, I am ready to pay INR 230 towards customs, but why should i pay the rest and his answer was if you have an issue pls send an email to customer care. apparently they are customer service and therefore they dont care!
I notice there are several similar complains against DHL on this forum. We seek help from forum to ban the company or report the company to the appropriate authroity. Common public cannot be taken on a ride for malpractices adopted by companies like this.
